ChrisM
Very easy to verify if it was a weenie report or not. Only additional info was it was a home wx station and that the tree tops are very damaged.

Turtle
BOX and Bob gonna rock An absolute deluge here at the humble abode (last day of vacation). CapturedNature
I see a Tornado Warning was issued for my locale....I just drove from Enfield through Somers to Stafford and did not notice any wind damage or anything beside flash flooding. Any reports from Ellington or Somers?
Turtle
wbzweather (WBZ Boston Weather) Just In..Skywarn spotters reporting wind gust to 100 mph @ S. Glastonbury! Hundreds of trees down. Extremely dangerous storm - @JoeJoyceWBZ That was a twitter rumor that spread like wildfire Hence the problem with going with something like this before being able to check it. I'm sure it's absolutely crazy at the office. Was shocked to see TOR watch in effect after coming home with the hub from the eye doctor at around 430 PM. (Remember, I'm on vacation, so not watching things.) Agree with comment about storm survey, but not sure whom is available to do that, but will be tough to do with folks on vacation and being a weekend. Harvey (Channel 5) has backed off...mentioning gusts about 70 mph in Glastonbury, with possibility of estimated 100 mph gust. Good to back off. --Turtle

dendrite
Dont forget heavy rain and wind combo causes wind values to read higher than actuality. I think that's more of a case with those hot-wire anemometers. The home stations don't really have those issues with the wind cups, but sometimes you can get weird wind spikes from lightning/electrical surges or rain getting into the connections. CoastalWx
Only additional info was it was a home wx station and that the tree tops are very damaged. Wind and rain can sometimes cause high readings, although not sure if this was the case here. Like I said...very easy to find out. I would think social media would light up if that was true. Not sure how much damage is in that area or what power outages are like...I just got home not too long ago and trying to get caught up.

Connecticut Appleman
In Ellington, I have never seen clouds move the way they did. They were moving in all directions until the heart of it was passing just to our west when all clouds were heading to the same point in the sky. A couple of minutes after it passed leaves just started fluttering down from high in the sky.

Connecticut Appleman
Nothing that I can determine from my vantage point. I would guess the worst of it would be a little more on the Ellington/East Windsor line as that was where things seemed to be converging - I'm just off of Jobs Hill Road in Ellington, about a mile south of the Somers town line.
