I believe I saw a funnel cloud, it appeared to be rotating and then it started heading down before going back up and disappearing. If it wasn't a funnel cloud it certainly looked like one to me.

The sun is out over me but I keep seeing lightning bolts so I'm not leaving just yet. I'm not trying to get struck by lightning.

Flash flood warning is probably warranted over the training cells in Queens and parts of Brooklyn.

LOL. Flash Flood Warning just issued:

BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED

FLASH FLOOD WARNING

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY

1156 AM EDT WED AUG 1 2012

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN UPTON NY HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...

QUEENS COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST NEW YORK...

RICHMOND (STATEN ISLAND) COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST NEW YORK...

KINGS (BROOKLYN) COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST NEW YORK...

* UNTIL 200 PM EDT...

* AT 1147 AM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR

INDICATED FLASH FLOODING FROM THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE WARNED AREA.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

AT 1154 AM...RADAR ESTIMATES 1 TO 2 INCHES OF RAIN HAD ALREADY

FALLEN NEAR THE VERRAZANO NARROWS BRIDGE...AND ALSO IN THE FOREST

HILLS AND JAMAICA SECTIONS OF QUEENS. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF

1 TO 2 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE IN THE WARNED AREA.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL

CREEKS AND STREAMS...URBAN AREAS...HIGHWAYS...STREETS AND UNDERPASSES

AS WELL AS OTHER DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS.

FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT. MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN

AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER

COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY DEEPER THAN THEY

APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL ENOUGH TO SWEEP

VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED ROADS MAKE THE

SMART CHOICE...TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN.

I drove through central Queens and i have honestly never seen it pour harder in my life. Downhill streets just had inches of water roaring down and i could barely see inches in front of me. Insane.

Yup. Serious flooding event is unfolding here; especially if these training cells continue for much longer.

Getting reports of streets that are not passable around the St. John's campus in Queens.

Would not be surprised. The worst i had was around kew gardens hills and it was literally as if that area was under a huge bath tub faucet. Just a wall of water slamming down.

crazy how in carle place long island it's partly sunny at times.. Everything went to my North, this year is crazy its like a bubble is over this area of Nassau

How you think i feel where i live in southwest suffolk, ive practically given up the ghost with severe weather this year. Today is producing some very heavy rainfall rates in those training storms currently, although where i am there probably gonna miss me, the people who get under them already have seen some downright torrents so far

LIE closed both ways near me in Fresh Meadows (near St Francis Prep). No traffic at all going eastbound...an empty road.

Westbound is dead stopped. People trying to drive the other way on grassy hill on side of road...crazy.

Don't remember seeing it like this for a rain event.

I'm on 9th and 39 st and all good here. It's stopped raining but should resume in a few.

Thanks , I'm up in the Catskills always a bit nervous about my basement flooding, last summer I had issues with the big storm before Irene. If you get serious rains please post. Thanks.
