The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that a downburst passed just south of me. Winds ahead of the storm were out of the west as expected, but suddenly switched out of the south, causing rainsheets to hit my front door, which is unusual. That would make sense iif the strongest winds went just south. I'm mobile - did buoys in the harbor report anything of note, around Robins Reef?

Gusts to around 40 mph and a brief heavy downpour with hardly any lightning here in Western Nassau.

Same here...a little lightning...didn't hear any thunder. Gust to maybe 25...poured for about 2 min...now moderate rain....

Exactly as I expected. Went right over Bayonne and northern State Island into the Harbor. Thanks for this! (Sucks to miss out by such a short distance )

Overcast in Port Jefferson with a temperature close to 80 F...

Can see some lightning off to my west...but that 7 inches + of rain the NMM was printing out looking a bit iffy....
