bluewave
Can some of the more knowledgeable mets explain why the storm weakened so suddenly? Was it a downsloping effect off the mountains? I am not sure, but maybe the less than stellar mid -level lapse rates had some effect.
ag3
Eastern LI will get into the bowing line. Curious to see reports there.
JonClaw
All bark, no bite. Heavy rain and a few weak gusts. Almost no lightning or thunder... I wonder what went wrong.
goldalex
Clouds looking absolutely incredible here, you can see them rolling and flying by. Incredibly dark here too, sure looks mean. Loud thunder and lots of lighting in the distance.
Alpha5
Had a few gusts of wind to start...then got shafted by a huge dryslot Starting to get some thunder now
Diego
The usual bs, some heavy rain, virtually no lightning, a few wind gusts over 25mph....
Juliancolton
Cool clouds up here in Dutchess County (I tried to head south from my house a little to get into the brunt of the line), but as many have said, the winds were modest at best. I love any weather better than sun and cirrus so I'll take it and run, but as the culmination of two days in mdt SPC risk, it was a little bit of a bummer. Sock Puppet
Meh, not that exciting. Rain, some wind and distant lightning.
Sundog
Little cell popped up over Sundog's house. Looks stronger. Yea I got brief heavy rain with that. But I'm not kidding when I say that the winds have not surpassed 20 mph in the worst points.
Guest Pamela
. Edit: Omg I've never seen the sky get black so fast, I was just looking out the window and then came back and it looks like the apocalypse. Ditto...
Stormlover74
Line seems to be holding together in se pa so I'm hoping to still see something down here in AC...surprised warnings are already out for ocean county
ag3
Yea I got brief heavy rain with that. But I'm not kidding when I say that the winds have not surpassed 20 mph in the worst points. Here too. Maybe 30mph tops.
CooL
Solid storm. Awesome clouds and some good gusts. Nothing memorable though.
nzucker
I am not sure, but maybe the less than stellar mid -level lapse rates had some effect. Wow, lapse rates were pretty poor. I guess we needed more of an EML. What were lapse rates like for the long-track derecho on Labor Day, 1998? I know the height falls at 500mb that day were extremely impressive, and we didn't have quite as favorable of an upper-level pattern on this occasion, probably because it's mid-July and the actual jet stream is fairly weak at this point in summer. The really bad severe outbreaks tend to occur in June and September when we have the jet stream closer to supply the kinematics and happen to get favorable thermodynamics. September 2010 had two very impressive thunderstorm events here in Westchester, the one on the 16th being infamous for its damage in Queens. Rtd208
Highest wind gust during the storm, 43mph, also had heavy rain, and CG lightning. Decent storm overall, I would have to say high end strong storm but remained just below severe limits.
TheTrials
Worst stuff was over Ridgefield and Danbury, numerous reports of large trees down, and several fires from lightning strikes. Condo complex in Danbury on fire and in New Milford just north of Danbury large trees blocking route 7.

eyewall
Well I grew up on Long Island (west islip) and I can tell you it was likely terrain and then the marine layer. Keep in mind mesoanalysis is taken from RUC so it is not 100% accurate. Plus all day it was showing plenty of CIN along the coast.
winterwarlock
for me it was rather uneventful...a little bit of wind, some thunder and about .31 inches of rain in and out in 40 minutes...definitely not severe
patrick05
Got dark here all of a sudden.. Flashes of lightning just to the norh, gusty winds as well
Drz1111
Like others, highest wind gusts in the 30-45 range here at the Battery. Very good (and very heavy rain) but not severe.
bkviking
Radar looks scary to my NW in the Sound...sky got dark very fast. In Port Jeff and can attest to William's post as it got dark quite quickly and wind came in quickly followed by now heavy rain. Nothing here too severe. Black night like skies and lightning do make it look awesome.
