this..

I too have been pondering that possibility all night. Only thing to impede this would be the warm lid above. Per the KDTx sounding it looks modest too.

I'd put my money on nothing punching through the cap, but just something to keep an eye on

LOT just issued a high wind warning for gusts to 60pmh with the surging boundary ahead of the convection.

50kts at 3kft on the LOT VAD

That is one of the shortest high wind warnings I can recall (less than 2 hours). Always an interesting call on whether to go with a severe thunderstorm warning or high wind warning in this type of situation.

going outside to get hit by the OFB in a bit...

Interesting little excursion....

Winds never got very intense, ~30-40mph. What was interesting was the distinct wind changes. First it was from the north, which was expected from the OFB moving through. But soon after the boundary moved through, suddenly the wind was gusting from the south for a short while. Inflow to a storm that was already outflow dominant? Not sure what was up with that. After that, the wind switched to westerly, as storms trained in from the west. Kinda unique, 3 distinct wind directions in 15 minutes.

For obvious reasons I couldn't get a good view of any shelf cloud, and there wasn't a ton of lighting to light things up. However there was the occasional intercloud lightning that would light up some very cool looking structure. Hard to tell exactly what it was but it seemed like there was some decent striations going on. It was pretty neat to see the lightning at different levels lighting up different areas and tones in the clouds....kinda like those HDR pictures of supercells you see where every layer of the cell is really distinct and almost glowing.

Okay... so the line from the northwest came through. I was out standing on the deck, watching it as the cap beat it to crap right overhead. There would be a strong gust of hot inflow, followed by a blast of cool outflow, with rain particles in it. Winds were from all directions, and clouds were going in every direction. The C2C lightning was impressive, but not nearly as impressive as the CG strike that hit directly in front of me on the next block over! I jumped a foot at least! That's when I headed in and shut down the PC's.

In the middle of all this, DTX finally called a warning on the cell, which by then was halfway through the county.

We just got skimmed by the largest part, getting just enough rain to wet the pavement. Lots of reports of arching wires and tree damage. A couple trees were on fire west of here.

And then... it was gone. Not enough rain to really matter here. A few minutes of excitement.

There's still plenty of action to the north, but I think it will take a while to work down this far. You can see the cap is still holding on, especially over the now infamous "Flint to Lansing dry slot", Storms just can't seem to get organized and the line itself seems to be flattening out considrably. On radar, it looks like the bottom is falling out of it.

Storms in every direction, but nothing here. How freakin' annoying!

It's 72 here now. Cooled off nice as it was still in the mid 80's when the line went through.

I was just looking at the line on radar. I don't think I ever recall such an odd, and long, squall line. Parts swinging north, parts going south,.. parts that look like they're standing still. Just plain odd.

Storms in Southern Wisconsin (if they hold together) would impact Southern Michigan which has largely been spared of any severe weather. We shall see...

Doing their normal weakening before hitting the lake trend. Like clockwork, probably good actually, at least we'll get some rain.

Well... we finally got a good cell through here. Rained pretty good for about ten minutes, now it's just light rain for the next 20 minutes or so until the next cell gets here. A few more of these and the grass might wake back up! I haven't mowed in probably six weeks.
