Awesome to have picked up half an inch (well, .48) overnight. We got hail at 4:00p.m. yesterday. I missed it by half an hour because I was returning from a meeting in Westfield, but my wife described the size as "yogurt-covered raisins". Hmmmmm. A funny thing about that, was from that event, we picked up a total of .01" in the bucket, so essentially it was just a little burst of hail. Weird.

Mike, it was torrential rain here (w/ hail mixed in) @ 4pm for a about 10 minutes. Picked up .3" from that burst and then picked up another .5" from the early morning storm.

My wife had said it was weird.....she reported tha the sun was still shining, there was only a little rain, LOTS of very close thunder/lightning and that the radar didn't show anything. In other words, I guess it was forming right overhead en route to you. So happy we picked up something meaningful during the overnight.

I had driven to Westfield at noontime and stopped at DD in South Deerfield. I saw all the puddle still on the ground there from the morning rains. I was very envious. Meanwhile, I hope the upcoming unsettled weather provides some significant rains.

Zipping on Sunday at the Beast. 8:30a.m. trek on the Valley Jump. Not sure I'm thrilled by 1/2 mile zips.......scary.

BTW--great signature. Has anyone heard from Pete?

You'll have a blast, the extreme lines are amazing. You'll want to go back and do it again in the fall. Really aSk your guide to help you learn to steer, and practice on the smaller lines, they get faster and longer as you progress.

Do not forget to look around once you're above the trees...

I'm jealous!

Yeah, that storm came and went very quickly. Heavy rain and hail w/ little thunder to speak of.

I plan on doing the zipline at B'East in Sept. Let me know how it was.

Oh' Pete's busy with a few a things and is just fine...

I think my eyes will be closed!

Do you have any idea what the 'expected' tip is for the guides (per person or per group)?

These are two people who are with you through the whole course. So, yes--I tip them. I think that's the expectation.

Mike may have responded to a pm I sent him, but for whatever reason, I can't access my inbox. Hmmmmm.

20 bucks is reasonable per guide if not a little more

That's what I did when I took my daughter and her friend. It didn't dawn on my until we were done that I should tip--and I happened to have 40 bucks.

Would you do that for the group (or at least the portion of the group your with) or per individual? I'm not sure what the protocol is. If it's per person, i think I'm going to become a Zip guide.

That's funny. While we had .01" of rain (which was mostly hail), my wife reported that we had very little wind, but unbelievably frequent/close lightning. She thought trees were being struck they were that close. All with the sun still casting shining and casting shadows.

The zip guides get paid like $35 per tour, which takes about 3 hours. Tipping isn't required, but it is their job to make sure that you have a safe, fun time, and if you think that they did their job well, by all means tip them! However big your group is, do the math and just make sure that it is worth their while... If they make a total of $50 each extra on the entire tour, I'm sure they'd be more than content.

Say hi to Mark Bennett, tell him that you know Mike from the weather forum. Hell... Say that I recommended you zipped. Not sure what would happen.

...Speaking of which, I am certain I could get a very good deal with a group. Any chance of an amwx gtg while zipping? Who'd be down?

Thanks, Mike--I'll see if it's Mark.

As far as a zipping gtg--we'll see if I survive. :)

I'd be up for it. Set it up!

FYI

Just in case Pete has people thinking that humidity doesn't exist above 1,200 feet or where ever he is, I can tell you that such thinking is wrong. I was at our lake house in the Adirondacks last week, about 1,800 feet, and the mid-week humidity was freaking nasty.

Oh sure, it can get very muggy at our place at 1200'. It just doesn't get as hot. I haven't hit 90 once this summer and only a handfull of times in the past six years. Lots of 85s and 86s though when as close as KLEB is 97 or something god-awful like that. Had back-to-back 89s in June during the heat blast and that's as high as we've gotten. Plenty humid at times though.
