omg, GINX! too funny...sorry eeK, but i loled!

oh, i see the Canna now...i was wondering about that sunflower, it's pretty though. Glad you left it and let it flower! i recognize all those tropicals...i worked for the largest wholesale aquatic garden supplier in New England back in the day...we sold tropicals, sub-tropicals, and marginals...as well as larger landscaping stock, and anything you could ever need to build and landscape your own water garden...my i suggest a water garden as your next project? i could most certainly help you out!

how's the weather way up yonder today? did you make it down into the 40's? and what do you do with all your tropicals during the fall/winter? do you start from scratch every planting season or do you overwinter some of the plant material?

I don't know if I need any more gardens...lol. The tropical garden only represents about 25% of my total garden area.

Only got down to 56. The lake is way too warm to let it get too cold this time of year.

I overwinter maybe 20% of the tropical garden and start the rest over from scratch each year. I lop the leaves off the tops of the bananas and drag them kicking and screaming inside for the winter where they sit and sulk until spring. Most of the elephant ears, except for the plain green ones, are stored in buckets of water over the winter. I take cuttings from several other plants, etc.

I'm channeling my inner ski_MRG and need to combat Eek's garden pic with a snow pic ;) I can't wait for the occasional palm tree this winter from Eek.

From last winter's Christmas snowstorm.... this was taken 12/26/11 after upslope flow deposited a nice surprise 8-10" snowfall on Christmas afternoon and evening.

The distant and inevitably growing itch has begun.

oh, it's always there...Paul Kocin says to move to Valdez, AK...i'd love to spend a winter in the Tahoe area and experience what it's like to get 8ft from one storm...the only place here in east where that might be remotely possible would be in an epic LES event...i've heard with the heat dome in the center of the country some of the Great Lakes have well above normal water temps...maybe this is the prelude to an epic LES season?

I've kind of wanted to move there too as it's pretty much my dream climate. Nice cool, comfortable summers and winters with tremendous snowfall. They average 300-350" per year in town. Temperature wise their winters are about on par with many NNE locations as they're moderated by the ocean. Not sure what I'd do there for work and such.

Tahoe is supposed to be great for snow too. I went there when I was 13 (1995) and they had mountains of snow near the ski area parking lot that were 20-30 feet high and at least several hundred feet long. Of course, my fuzzy memory from long ago may have exaggerated things.

damn, i love that snow picture!

Thanks! Yeah we had our moments last winter when it actually looked like winter haha.

I was so happy for that 8-10" Christmas surprise though...we were only supposed to get snow showers with 1-3" and the upslope over-performed and it snowed hard all Christmas afternoon.

As nice as these last two days have been, I have to admit, feeling the humidity back in the air is going to be nice. This weekend had a Labor Day feel to it, plenty of time for that to happen, for now its summer.

Labor Day? This is summer. Low 80w during the day.

??? Not sure what you are talking about, yesterday especially had a labor day feel to it, around 80 or just shy, it was chilly, thankfully that wont be an issue the next couple days and with the higher dews it will once again feel like the most wonderful of all seasons.

Interesting that you mention this because I actually thought the past two days have been a bit humid, moreso than we've been used to.

Yesterday saw mid 50s dews and today has felt disgusting with dews as high as the low 60s. All of BTV's CWA is low 60s right now and it feels very humid. I want that afternoon last week when we were in the low 40s for dews haha.

with the high pressure just offshore of capecod...Martha's Vineyard actually dropped into the 40's for overnight lows...the further west you got and inland the and away from the high, the temps moderated and there def was a noticeable increase in dewpoints

I agree. Yesterday and Friday had a late summer feel to it... my pool was 6 or 7 degrees cooler than on Weds or Thursday

Low 80s is seasonable though. 75 with a gusty nw wind is a little Labor Day like. It can be tough to go swimming labor day and i had no problem the last 2 days.

The water in early September is about as warm as it gets. Friday was awful, disgusting, yesterday had a labor day feel and was backed up with temps, deep blue skies and low humidity and east wind.

The difference is the sun is still searing now. Even low 70's with that sun and it's warm on a beach. Much weaker sun on Labor Day.

And on that note...

As of midnight, we have only 39 days till Met. Fall.

Cheers Pete! 40's in the Glen Thursday morning probably.
