According to XMACIS, the streak without a 1" snow depth should be up to 322 days today. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your data from? You beat us to the punch a lot of the time with this stuff lol.

You're correct. Not sure why I added an extra day.

Check your PM's too.

Thanks for the stats, Chicago Storm.

Although the current snow drought for winter 2012-13 is the big deal here (1.3" of snowfall to date for the season, besides the records mentioned above)...the most remarkable thing to me is how many poor snow winters Chicago has seen over the years.  I would have never thought that Chicago has had 10 winters since 1890 with less than 4" of seasonal snowfall through Jan. 13.  That is horrible.

It just confirms my contention that it's a media-driven fantasy that Chicago is somehow a wintry place.

All relative. On average Chicago is still a more wintry place than like 2/3 of the country.

No lake effect and very sensitive to the plains drought conditions.

I still feel we will thread the needle and get a storm that would eat most, if not all, of the all time record for the season. But maybe I am foolishly optimistic...

I'm not even sure what ORD is at but if we head into february down 6"+ from the record...climo says we'll give it a run for the money.

Chicago will probably go into late March with 3 inches and then get a 20 inch bomb that melts in 3 days.... Records will show a sub-average season, but not that remarkable.

climo for 20" bombs in March says this is likely to bust....even 6" storms become relatively rare into March.  If we head into February this far back, we'll have a good month of big storm climo before it becomes long shot city

Futility mongers might be ok with it ending with a bang. Imagine getting like 3" in early April to put it over the top.

if we're talking about the big daddy, that would be a killer. It does look like we'll add an impressive amount of days to the days before 1", especially considering the tight cluster around the 14, 15, 16 and 17th.

It's definitely the most wintry out of the major cities, but I wouldn't consider it a snowy place. There's many more towns and areas in this country that are a lot more snowy. Out of the cities over 250k in the country, excluding Alaska, I'd say Minneapolis is the most wintry city.

Syracuse is always cited as the largest "Wintery" city.....

To really figure this out, you have to set a population minimum.... Houghton or Marquette, MI are the snowiest cities with a university.

...Forgot about Syracuse. Definitely agree with the U.P. cities. Duluth is right up there to.
