Accumulating snowfall looks unlikely today, so it looks like December 2012 will end up with the 10th least amount of snow on record, and it will only be the 10th time there has been less than 1.0" of monthy December snowfall.

December Snow:
1. Trace - 1912
1. Trace - 1889
3. 0.1" - 1943
4. 0.3" - 1971
4. 0.3" - 1906
6. 0.4" - 1986
7. 0.5" - 1939
8. 0.6" - 2004
9. 0.8" - 1936
10. 0.9" - 2012

The 0.9" in December will also make it only the 25th time a Met Winter month has had less than 1.0" of snow.

December 2012 will also end up just outside the top 10, ending up the 11th warmest on record with an average temp of 36.1

Just wondering but what was the seasonal total in 1898-99? That had a very strong finish around here ( all across S.MI )  thanks to a epic March.. Most around here finished at/above normal with snowfall. Was not the greatest start but was a better then this year around here.

18.0"

2.6" in Jan, 3.5" in Feb, 7.4" in Mar, T in Apr.

Milwaukee had 18.6", Fort Wayne had 27.0", and South Bend had 28.0" in Mar 1899. Even LAF had 11.0"+. Must have skipped over Chicago.

Somebody always gets screwed.

Anyway, I'm calling the first 1.0"+ event for Chicago this winter on either January 15 or 16. The cries from Alek and Joe will be memorable.
