SNE severe/convective thread IX...or whatever number we're on

The intense convection is now leaving behind a cold pool. This CP happened last night up here too. I think any subsequent storms will be more R+++ (1-3 inches?) makes with potential for NEAR severe winds (40-50 mph).

Still think coast line of NE esp from CT to RI could see severe storms.

Yeah last night we got a SVR warned storm with very heavy rain like 2 hours after the main line passed through... they just kept re-firing singular cells moving west-east way behind the main line.

Now i just want /need rain. Our severe threat is over. those cells to our west are going to either miss SW or fizzle

Finally the lawn is getting a good drink, oh no, training. No complaints MBY for severe are counted on one hand in the past 10 years. Just to see these types of storms develop in the general neighborhhod and New England is enough excitement.

Feels fantastic outside now with Temp and dew dropping.

This is when the southern end of that cell past to the N and E.

I have not heard of anything.

Yes...rates were nuts.

I just looked at the precip storm total... is this wrong and under-reporting? That's a huge flash flood warning when it seems the only rainfall that might approach FF guidance levels is in northern Windham and southern Worcester counties. With the very dry conditions, I'm assuming it would take an appreciable amount of rainfall to get streams out of their banks or even ponding in yards.

I figured you'd need like 3+" of rainfall to trigger a FF Warning with this dry ground.

Considering how HIGH the YTD rainfall deficits were/are to the East thru South Albany these areas could take a lot of rain. Then again considering these deficits and how "dry and hard" the ground is run off from heavy rain could be an issue too. Sort of a Catch-22 I guess

Radar estimates can be pretty meh. The rates too were so intense that it really didn't take much for some areas to flood...ground just couldn't soak it up fast enough

How much rain did you get today?

I got a whopping .15 inches, and I have had rolling thunder for the last 3 hours or so.

You've got plenty of rain coming tonight.

Me, maybe another .10 of rain, but other than that, I think that I am done for the day. Oh well, I will just have to wait fr the next threat to come around.

Not sure. My yard has always been too full of trees with not enough open space to setup my rain gauge, however, during the late spring our landlord had the front porch removed as well as some of the trees and bushes so there is a bit more in the way of open space. I just haven't gotten to setting it up yet but probably will do so within the next month or so.

Look like I got the finger from Mother Nature on this whole event; convection to my north yesterday and last night, convection to my south today. Not that it was unexpected based on the poor timing of the cold front around here. Once the cold front came through during the late morning and shifted our winds NW I knew this area was done for.

I'd practically welcome another Irene with open arms at this point. :maprain:
