CapturedNature
I was in Europe most of that Summer of 88.. I understand it almost never went under 70 for a low for a month in the Hudson Valley. The heat broke right around the time I came home. Summer of 1988 (esp August) is burned in my memory as the most miserable one with regard to heat and humidity. Relentless swamp azz I can't speak for other areas, but I remember that summer for a lot of hot weather stretches but also for cool weather. This area saw temps in the 30s in the first few days of July and then again a few weeks into August. I had 13 90+ days between 7/4 and 8/14 that year but a week after we had a 5 day stretch of 90s, we had temps in the 30s.

powderfreak
Hey be glad you weren't in Delmar yesterday! I had to take the old 98 Camry with no a/c down there and it was brutal. My sister had borrowed the CRV. I go into the McDonalds on Delaware Avenue and the a/c was broken. That Walmart parking lot in Glenmont was searing. ALB was 98 around that time. No idea what we hit here on the hill, but probably 92/93 maybe... Haha the old stomping grounds...ahh to be back in high school wandering up and down Delaware Ave to pass the time - no thanks! I have no doubt Delmar was on fire yesterday.

I had 13 90+ days between 7/4 and 8/14 that year but a week after we had a 5 day stretch of 90s, we had temps in the 30s. That 6-week stretch in 1988 was one long humid slog; I don't think the dews ever dropped below 60 and in early August climbed to near/at 80. BGR had one reading of 93 with RH68, which would point to a TD of 80-81, and PWM set their all time high TD at 77. Then summer went away after 8/14, with only one more day reaching 80 (81 on 9/3.) Aug 1-14 averaged +8.4, 15-31 averaged -2.5, so the month would up +2.3, warm but nowhere near a record. (August at +8.4 would've easily been Farmington's warmest for any month since records began in 1893.) There was also one blisteringly hot week in mid-June. That year was also the summer of the yellowjacket (with some whiteface hornets mixed in.) One of our field foresters had a three week period where he never went into the woods (avg 4 woods days/week) one time without getting stung. The one day I was with him, he got nailed 5X and I got away with only 2 - also steered him away from a grapefruit-size hornet's nest he was about to walk into. Our boundary maintenance crew had to abandon work on Burnt Jacket Mt near Jackman after encountering 31 yellowjacket nests - before noon.

I remember hiking up there in the early 90s. That isn't the Mt that had the B-52 wreckage on it, is it? Up to 96°F (36°C) at my place...ties my highest reading last year and the last time I hit 90 all summer. Maybe that's a good sign?
