Summer update III: SNE region's 4 primary climo sites all remain solidly above normal as of the closing of July 14.

It's rare to have a very dry August. It can be below normal, but we always get these tropical rains it seems. Plus, the pattern going forward seems to want to bring some rains. That map Don posted looks dry off to the west...not necessarily here.

A below normal August could easily happen, but a 1" or less QPF deal is hard to do.

I may have to abandon the lawn watering with the well if August and Sept are as dry as Don thinks

I've put the kabash on watering my new lawn area. The area that was unreachable from my hoses until a week ago (when I bought another 100') is struggling. The rest has really done pretty well. In fact, I mowed it on Sunday--just walked over it now and am really suprised it looks as good as it does (though the damn knotweed continues to be a problem).

I think we'll be getting enough natural rain where your well-watering won't be necessary (perhaps not to your satisfaction, but not to the detriment of your lawn).

Alas, this should be relegated to the lawn thread.....

What do folks think about showers/storms today? My temp's climbing. I started cooler than them this morning (atypical) and am now warmer than them (atypical). I see 60's just to my north and west. Perhaps I'm experience the compression from the front coming through? I think that's how you presented it to me in the past Scott.

It's 80s or so inland with cool nights I would imagine. In fact Friday could have clouds and areas in CT struggle for 80. Sunday could be upper 80s at BDL, but BDL is not representative of SNE in this pattern. Same with Scooby Doo.

Yeah folks that live in the valley don't count. You're sounding a lot like MRG.

That's not what I meant, dude. I mean your temps will not be that representative for SNE Thursday-Saturday.

So is it fair to say that the temps posted by the lads from W. Chesterfield and Shelbourne or even Moosup are representative for SNE Thursday-Saturday ? Or perhaps those inside of 495 or 128 ? A blanket statement such as you made requires clarification IMO.

Why are you turning this into a population weighted issue..lol. All I'm saying is that temps in the CT valley will be warmest out of anyone for SNE. It's for those who like to use that area for their temp verifcations. Pete in the Berks will probably have similar temps to here, but for different reasons. Where did I mention that nobody cared about you guys?

I truly believe that Jerry was right when he said he saw the ridge slide east in a natural progression as we head into August.. I still think we get a more sustained taste of what the rest of the country has seen, and I strongly disagree that we have seen our warmest days.

We are definitely going to have warm to hot days, but I don't see us getting what the Plains had. If anything, we may have more humidity with more SW flow.

The heat the plains had could never translate east, lol, i simply does not get that hot here however, I believe the ridge will come out in early August and provide for a much above August, +2-+5 range once again.

I think at least the 1st half of the month may be opposite. Ridging and heat stay Plains and West while the east is above normal with bouts of humidity. So above normal anyways. Might be like 88 or 90/72 type stuff for example.

It will be interesting to watch unfold, these fronts are completely unimpressive with the lack of cooler air behind them. I understand that up north they will have a couple days that chill down but for most of us all these fronts do is knock it down to +2-+4 type days, w or nw flow with full sun yields pretty warm days on the cp. The warmth has been so steady that I really think we have acclimated to it this year, yesterday was a fairly brutal day and people were pretty ho hum.....anyhow the cool down will feel nice at night, and by the way GOOD LUCK today, I am sure it was really hard not to open that envelope:)
