Intense Heat Returning Mid/Late July?

Depending on how quickly tonights moisture dries out of the ground, should be fast with the conditions and heat only slightly tempering, next Tuesday and Monday even could be interesting as to how hot it may get. I wouldn't be surprised to see a good chunk of places in Iowa, Northern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin, and some of the surrounding region get the hottest temps yet of the Summer. Perhaps see a few 102-107 degree readings. Wouldn't surprise me.

Then probably see the heat relax back for a day or two and surge back in and head a good portion of us back towards 100 again. Ick, ick ick. I sincerely hope I am wrong about all this.

One heck of a summer we have going here. Already 3 100+ days at MLI. IIRC that hasn't been done since 1988.

Euro certainly agrees with this, it is ugly, even out this way we have eclipsed 100 3 times. It is very wrong to feel cool when it is 88 outside, but today was noticeably cooler.

Cyclone, I was just trying to remember today how many 100 degree readings we had in the Summer of 1988. That was the standard bearer for heat and drought in my lifetime. As bad as the drought has been in these parts its still no where near as bad as 1988. I remember the cracks in the ground being gaping, so much so I thought my foot could be swallowed up in one- I was pretty youngish then, and I remember me and the neighborhood kids sticking yardsticks down into the ground and they would completely disappear. Our neighbor even had to have a new well drilled. And we had the Earthquake in downstate IL that Summer too I believe.

Stebo- yeah the other day here when it was 89 I remember how much better it felt after we were 100 or 101 the day before and I thought the same thing, how sad that 89 felt cool. I think we all knew Summer was going to be bad when we had the March that a large part of us had. I just cannot believe how bad the yards look, the crops are meager looking, rivers dropping, barges now having troubles on the Mississippi, etc etc. This is going to get so much worse before it gets better. I just hope this heat doesn't stick around through September.

God help us if it stays through until September.

I'm sure Tim is doing cartwheels after reading that..

Sigh.

Alas, not like I thought the heat would go away anytime soon. Locked and loaded through August, and maybe beyond.

As for Hoosier's 102 today, might need another amazing recovery. Socked in with clouds here in the LAF this morning.

Afternoon convection for both Tuesday and Wednesday forced OKK to top out at 99. It is kind of a bummer to miss the century mark after being so close.

Also, from the IND AFD this morning:

UNRELENTING HEAT REBUILDS STARTING AT LOW 90S SUNDAY AND BACK

INTO THE MID AND UPPER 90S BY WEDNESDAY. WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF

WE DONT HIT TRIPLE DIGIT HIGHS IN WESTERN COUNTIES WEDNESDAY AND

THURSDAY.

My 102...lol. Should be enough time to recover well into the 90s at least.

I think we have a good chance of putting together some consecutive 100 degree days next week. Here is my first call for LAF...better sit down Tim. :P

Sun: 96

Mon: 101

Tue: 101

Wed: 102

Thu: 100

Highest temp so far this year is 103. I think we could threaten that one of these days (possibly Wed or Thu) but it's hard to go that high this far out. High heat could go beyond this but that is getting really far out.

Ha ha. If that call somehow ends up working out it would make 9 100 degree days for us this month. Unbelievable when you consider recent years have lacked really intense heat for the most part.

This year has been remarkable. Wouldn't surprise me at all. I can't wait until November, when I'm pretty sure we'll be done with 90's. ;)
