If we got some rain, this would be an almost perfect summer...

...well, rain, plus some sort of blight that destroyed the deer fly population. OMG they suck

Correction: Mosquitos suck, deerflies rend and tear! Totally agree with the 1st sentence; garden is dry, no outdoor spigot, raincatchers almost empty. There's a tiny spring-fed brook 100' from the garden, and 6-7P yesterday I was trying (unsuccessfully so far) to rig a siphon from there to the crops. Full tree cover, running water, mud, late aft/eve - absolute heaven for the skeeters, and I fed a cast of thousands. Then a deerfly nailed the back of one hand, quite surprising for that time and place, but not so surprising but that I ensured she'd had her final meal.

As we established overnight, you are closer, my neighbors station is great and accurate. Sorry bud http://www.wundergro...sp?ID=KCTSTERL1

Who cares who is closer? You are their elevation and latitude in SE Ct. I am in NE CT and much higher elevation. you and IJD are a match FYL and me FTW looking down from the Mtn top waving and smiling

88 IJD(Ginx)

89 BDL

Day 2 a lock

Scorcher up here but look at the current dews and humidity...we continue to live in the desert with 35-40F diurnal ranges and RH below 30%:

BTV...90/51 26%

MVL...89/52 28%

1V4...86/47 25%

MPV...85/49 28%

Springfield...92/53 26%

Yesterday was a 37F diurnal swing and today it's already 38F warmer than it was this morning...all thanks to dews consistently in the 40s and low 50s.

Ditto to previous folks -- what is up with the Deer Flies! My god. Usually they have peaked by now and in especially dry weather. Whence the higher dew points arrive, they will be jig sawing many a folk. Seems the dragon fly populations have come down in my location and that might be the reason.

975 feet is a mountain? IJD is 247 in a valley on a Tarmac . I am 500. Why don't you post your obs at home any more? The fact all your neighbors report they only went above 90 twice all summer have anything to do with it? Face it, been a nice hot dry low dew summer with the heat waves concentrated in your summer cottage on the Tarmac at BDL. Well back in the water, enjoy the AC.

Loos like dews in the low to mid 60s across SNE and CT....days and days of 70+ dews not happening yet.

BDL at 89/64...if we are using it for verifying heat wave, can't switch and use private home stations to verify dews.

dews dont start until this weekend, and nobody said otherwise snow boy

If we don't get hit and miss storms Sunday and am overnight fropa next Thurs which generally means dry. This could go down as one of the driest Julys ever for many in SNE. The nice weather is one thing but deadly drought and lawn burnage is quite another. The pattern looks brutally rain free thru end of month aside from the lucky towns that pop a storm Sunday/ Monday

LOL.

Everyone up here is talking about how nice it's been....nicest in memory for the first half of summer. No clouds, just sun everyday. No highs that are cold in the 60s but also no really excessive heat...just 75-85F just about everyday with cool mornings and warm afternoons.

It really has been amazing so far.

Not to join the panic bandwagon but these people won't be saying that when their wells run dry and/or municipal water restrictions are imposed if we keep up this pace.

It's been a bit of a cooker for me this summer--the saving grace being the consistently cool nights/mornings.

I had the damn things. They ruin almost every run. I suppose the incessant hills ruin every run as well--I can truthfully say "back in my day, we had to run uphill--both ways".

That's pretty amazing. My high of 83.7 and low of 61.2 give me a whopping 22-23* delta.

Pretty sticky--delaying my run. 82.9/69

We won't be below normal after this week but I was surprised to see MPV, 1V4, and MVL all below normal even with hot afternoons...for once it's the lows that are pulling down the averages.

I am starting to think we are getting feedback from the dry conditions...huge daily spreads, and very low humidities under 30% a lot of afternoons.

Roger that. Had a 30 degree drop from yesterday's high to this morning's low at the house (83/53). Looking at the Co-Op obs from BTV, some places had 40 degree swings.

As I said in the NNE thread this morning, our brook is as low as I've ever seen it which is giving me some concern. Keeping a very sharp eye on water usage--might have to check the well level this weekend and see where it's at. With the mother-in-law visiting for a week (ugh), I foresee lots of lake/brook showers for this fellow, lol.
