Italian severe weather

Recommended Posts

I hope you can enjoy this :)

If you find it interesting, I'm going to update here the italian severe weather; right now in the summer is mostly a northern italian question, with the supercells and tornadoes of Po valley/northern Italy (climatically a sort of "italian midwest" for who doesn't know Italy) while central-southern Italy is deeply in the mediterranean summer, dry and sunny with very few local exceptions.

Here a supercell of yesterday in the area of Vercelli (between Milan and Turin), with some pics from italian boards

Looks like this one could have been taken in the Great Plains!

Yea, Po valley/northern Italy looks a little like the Plains in various ways (climate and landscape).

@ WXheigts: it depends from the area, but yes on the Piedmont's part of the Po valley the major storms come off from the western Alps.

Just passed an heavy thunderstorm here on my town, with big hail (luckly mixed with rain) and 44 mm of rain.

Here the radar 15-20 minutes after the storm, that can be seen NE of my town (Riva)

ultimo_pioggia.jpg

In the nearby Vallagarina valley, the Mori weatherstation recorded a peak of 644 mm/h ... for sure with lot of hail ...

Tomorrow we expect more storms during the day, while from the evening we'll have chilly northern winds; probable lows in the low 50s on monday :)

Hi guys

Lately I've been quite busy and then the weather hasn't been really "active" (heat wave).

Yesterday we had a quite intense coldfront that washed away the heat, but, as espected, with some damages through storms and hail.

Here in my townside we didn't had as much hail as in the downtown and on the lakefront, where instead they went hit hard with white landscape e some damages.

Couple of facebook photos from the beach

Meanwhile I have activated a new photocam, this time on the roof of the hotel of a friend of mine :)

Thanks for posting this stuff. I find it quite interesting seeing severe weather from other countries other than the U.S.

I'd actually like to see some pics of Bangladesh tornadoes (like the 5/13/96 event where 0-3 km helicity was around 500 m2/s2 and CAPE was around 9000 j/kg).

Hi guys

Boring early-october weather here right now ... hazy with low clouds in the morning, mild and quiet ... lows in the 50s and highs in the high 60s/low 70s ...

Something seems to change after 11th-12th.

Meanwhile I put my fotocam on the roof with a wi-fi access point :)

Here the new view !

My other fotocams are as usual on www.altogardameteo.com

And here something from my archives, while waiting for some real autumn weather: the blizzard of 2006 :snowing:
