TheTrials
Without a doubt, 7/26/12 Turns out my second 1st guess 1st last call was correct. Lol. These things are so tough to predict. I think this does pass June 2010. At least we had good thunder and lightning there.
TheTrials
Needed that warm front through the entire area by 11am then we would have really been cooking coupled with better 500mb support. Oh well.
NYCSuburbs
I'd place 7/26 2nd place, not 1st. The storms did weaken as they moved into NYC but at least there was something severe entering the area. 6/6/10 barely even had that. There were also far more reports yesterday than they were on 6/6/10.

psv88
Huge bust in the NYC METRO...come on, one tree down on long island? two maybe i think. A Whopping 2500 lost power on the island!!! Cannot believe how that sucked died out. The clouds were cool, but man seeing that thing to the west was wild, then it was a joke. I dont care if some places verified, we had a monster headed towards us that completely fizzled. We have had 3 or 4 storms worse this summer. Just pointing out that I saw several large tree branches down and 1 crushed a car in Astoria. That's all. Point taken. Guy was stuck by falling debri under a church when lightning hit and died in bk. Some people still dont take lightning seriously, at their own peril. A woman was struck last week in Kew Gardens while walking down the street. In my opinion, more emphasis should be placed on the lightning risks, and less so on the hail, heavy rains, possible breezy conditions. Around here, lightning is the biggest threat. NEG NAO
Yesterday was a complete bust in the NYC metro BUT it could have easily turned out to be a disaster with millions of people without power - lives lost - buildings destroyed - these situations are next to impossible to accurately predict for any one location -only the potential is there to easily warn people was better to warn people - I am sure many folks were relieved when the storm passsed through and they had no damage to their property and they were not injured - I know I was........ psv88
Limbs and branches can come down also in a garden variety thunderstorm...when the METRO area has less than 25k power outages, the storms were not that bad. Half of those reports are from buoys or sites on the ocean/sound. Nobody said some areas didnt see severe, the majority were north and it was widely scattered. And if you followed my posts in the banter thread, I was one of the only people that desperately wanted this thing to bust. I hate severe weather, because severe weather means winds and that means trees and power lines down. I love trees and my electricity as well. Weenie or not a few scattered trees down over a geographic area as large as Upton's warning area is a joke. It's ok to say it busted in our area. There's nothing wrong with saying it.
