NaoPos
From the HWO fromMt. Holly today: HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOUNT HOLLY NJ 313 PM EDT MON JUL 30 2012 DEZ001-MDZ008-012-015-019-020-NJZ001-007>010-015>019-PAZ054-055- 060>062-067>071-311915- NEW CASTLE-CECIL-KENT MD-QUEEN ANNES-TALBOT-CAROLINE-SUSSEX-WARREN- MORRIS-HUNTERDON-SOMERSET-MERCER-SALEM-GLOUCESTER-CAMDEN- NORTHWESTERN BURLINGTON-CARBON-MONROE-BERKS-LEHIGH-NORTHAMPTON- CHESTER-MONTGOMERY-BUCKS-DELAWARE-PHILADELPHIA- 313 PM EDT MON JUL 30 2012 THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTHERN DELAWARE...NORTHEAST MARYLAND...CENTRAL NEW JERSEY...NORTHERN NEW JERSEY...NORTHWEST NEW JERSEY...SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY...EAST CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA...NORTHEAST PENNSYLVANIA AND SOUTHEAST PENNSYLVANIA. .DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT. HAZARDOUS WEATHER IS NOT EXPECTED AT THIS TIME. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY. CLUSTERS OF THUNDERSTORMS MAY BE STRONG WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING AND AGAIN ON SUNDAY...PRODUCING GUSTY WINDS AND HEAVY DOWNPOURS. EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA...NORTHEAST MARYLAND AND INTERIOR NEW JERSEY APPEAR TO BE THE MOST FAVORED REGION FOR STRONG THUNDERSTORMS ON WEDNESDAY. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... SPOTTER ACTIVATION IS NOT EXPECTED AT THIS TIME. $$ Thermos and shear profiles don't look great, especially the shear. Almost no wind from the surface up to 500mb... However, mid level lapse rates look favorable thanks to some heigh falls from an approaching shortwave. PWATS sitting around 1.5-2 with the meager steering flow means slow moving storms dropping heavy rains. Between the mid level lapse rates and saturated updrafts/ water loading, any severe threat would be mostly a wind threat, but isolated at best. Pulse type storms are the name of the game. iceman56
During the recent string of severe threats, we came up with nada here in NW Chesco. The storm that rode slowly south to north through the county last evening was the closest thing I've seen to severe this summer. I wasn't really expecting anything, but the storm seemingly materialized out of nowhere and dropped 1.08" of rain and localized winds gusts sufficient to bring down a black walnut tree near the house. Ground is now nice and damp and with more heavy rain likely tomorrow we should be set for the remainder of the growing season. August first tomorrow and dropping average temps FTW. easternsnowman
Yepper, just noticed that yesterday, kinda slipped under the radar because it's been significantly "cooler" or less hot in the immediate northern burbs this month. TTN averaging 3.1 degrees cooler and (15) 90 days compared to the PHL for July. philly is definitely the hot spot and this marks the 3rd year in a row where philly has averaged 90 or better for july , which seems to be the new norm for them! Many areas in Chester county including West Chester are averaging around 5 degrees cooler for the month!!!
MGorse
Just about every person I'm seeing on FB and everywhere else, are calling the storm that hit Freehold a derecho. Ugh. Maybe a new term should be introduced, say micro-derecho.
famartin
Maybe a new term should be introduced, say micro-derecho. I find myself wondering if the term "derecho" should have ever been used by a meteorologist in an interview...
NaoPos
ALTHOUGH BETTER LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE INFLOW TO THE DEVELOPING SYSTEM MAY BEGIN BY SATURDAY...THE MORE SUBSTANTIVE STRENGTHENING OF SOUTHERLY LOW-LEVEL WARM SECTOR FLOW AND SHEAR MAY BE CONFINED TO PORTIONS OF ONTARIO TO THE NORTH OF LAKES SUPERIOR AND HURON. AS DEEPENING OF THE SURFACE LOW CONTINUES ON SUNDAY... STRENGTHENING OF LOWER AND MID TROPOSPHERIC FLOW FIELDS APPEARS INCREASINGLY PROBABLE AS FAR SOUTH AS AREAS TO THE EAST OF THE LOWER GREAT LAKES...PERHAPS THE UPPER OHIO VALLEY. WHILE THIS MAY NOT BE MUCH MORE THAN 30-40 KT...IT DOES APPEAR THAT LOW-LEVEL MOISTENING AND STEEPENING OF MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES WILL BECOME SUFFICIENT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF MODERATELY LARGE CAPE ACROSS MUCH OF NEW YORK/PENNSYLVANIA AND PORTIONS OF ADJACENT STATES. THIS ENVIRONMENT APPEARS POTENTIALLY SUPPORTIVE OF AN EVOLVING ORGANIZED MESOSCALE CONVECTIVE SYSTEM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING CONSIDERABLE DAMAGING WIND GUSTS...PARTICULARLY AS MID-LEVEL FORCING FOR UPWARD VERTICAL MOTION BEGINS TO SPREAD EAST OF THE LOWER GREAT LAKES REGION...EITHER LATE SUNDAY OR SUNDAY NIGHT. Here is shot from my webcam here in Sea Isle city as we have only had some drizzle so far with the heavier rain just inland and south of here Doesn't surprise me......there are some people that just wont leave the beach. I don't know why but they think they can't get hit by lightning for some reason. I go back to sunday when its very dark to the north with multiple CTG strikes visible and people still coming to the beach or even worse not getting out of the water. ChescoWx
Nothing at all just a couple miles to your NE from that one.....did receive 0.14" there yesterday. Despite the PHL string of 90 + days only a mere 4 were recorded on my home station. We have had only 7 days above 90 here in NW Chesco....last year we recorded 11 my all time record since being in NW Chesco since 2003 During the recent string of severe threats, we came up with nada here in NW Chesco. Yes lightning is scary but also very thrilling, nothing wrong with being fearful. The main thing is being smart and respecting it. I film the stuff and I have a lot of respect for it and am very careful. I know what it can do but also lightning is beautiful and very picturesk.
