Boner alert

Going to be an interesting evening around these parts. I just hope I'm not in the wrong place at the wrong time. I have to travel a few heavily tree lined roads up near Hazleton to get my water loads. Don't want to be on them if/when one of the severe lines roll through.

I've seen some tweets saying that they thought the showers moving through now would lay out a boundary to help thunderstorms this afternoon. Do you think the showers are going to destabilize the area?

spc better hope those showers moving in from the northwest don't screw the severe threat overhead in the philly metro.

Dying as they hit chesco. I'm hoping we can be back in the sun by 12-1. We should be alright after that if it happens as far as destabilizing goes. Liking the south trend from the spc and this mornings events.

Today in the NE/ MA will either be an awesome day or total bust.

And Kim, they'll inhibit the destabilization for a bit. What it might help do is lower the lcl's and let us play around with some more low level moisture. Only time will tell.. But gonna need to get that sun out!

depends on where the showers die out and how the boundary moves down. They could trigger some development southeast of the city later on along an old outflow boundary from these showers. My concern is more the cloud shield...need that sucker to thin out in the next hr or two.

It's not that they're dying...but you need the sun out pretty quick. Having clouds around until 1, 2 PM probably won't help this area from a severe perspective. I certainly could be wrong but clouds around after midday won't help matters.

Sorry to clog up the thread, but just adding stuff as I go. Check out the 0-1km helecity values.

Not really educated on this stuff. Does the higher numbers equal better chances at severe? If so, it looks like the coal region into the southern Poconos might be the sweet spot for Eastern PA.

Oh ok that makes sense. Looks like some clearing to the west, maybe we could get the warm front to lift through us and help out?

In laymans terms, it's just shear associated with the turning of winds at different levels of the atmosphere. (more specifically the lower levels).

Just show not only do we actually have decent winds above us, but are flowing in different directions. A + when it comes to severe weather chances.

yep...can see blue to my west.

FWIW, the NAM is hinting at that development in SE PA after 5 PM. This might be our "show" while the line develops and then moves through later tonight (a bit weaker than it will be to the north).

Visiting family in Rochester, NY. Decent storms for hours last night, and it sounded like bombs going off around 3 AM. Looks like limited severe weather occurred across western New York last night. The rain sure was nice to see and hear as it is really dry up here as well. Let's see what you guys get today.

once that line over Lake Erie gets onshore I think the s--t hits the fan up there.

would not be surprised if they go PDS...not sure they will but it wouldn't surprise me.

Was wondering about PDS myself, given the probs in the Outlook. Won't have to wait long to find out.
