Almost started a new off topic thread in the SE forum since ol Andy passed away today. I beleiveThelma Lou and opie are the only main characters still living. I'm certain I'm not alone among SE members who list this show as their all time favorite. I'm 43 and my teens have even watched every episode (first 5 seasons) and love it. Give me sports, the news, this show 24/7 and a side of Sanford & Son and you can cancel the rest of the 100+ channels a far as i'm concerned.

Gomer is still around. I have all the first five seasons on DVD. It is also a staple on Netflix. They have all 8 seasons available.

Does anyone have a suggestion on a weather station to buy? I want one that can transmit and store the data to my computer and even update to wunderground.com. I only want the basics such as temp, humidity, wind, etc. I do not want to spend more than $200 - $250.

If I had to start from scratch again, my first station would be a Davis Vantage Vue. It's a single piece of hardware that's solar powered and wireless. The Vue uses the same sensors as it's more expensive brothers.

Good prices here. http://www.archertra...&products_id=77

You will also need a datalogger in order to send the data somewhere. If you're going to hook this up to a computer, you need either a serial or USB datalogger, if your not using a computer, you need a IP datalogger.

Serial Datalogger: http://www.archertradingpost.com/atp/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=18

I've had my Vue for about 4 years now.

I've had my Vue for about 4 years now.

When my Vantage Pro2 ISS died last year I bought a Vue ISS to replace it. I'm disappointed with the Vue. The radiation shielding seems to be way to small. When the sun hits the ISS the temp always rises 5-10 f hotter than it really is. Even the humidity is off drastically. The Pro2 ISS never did this. However, the Vue ISS has a better rain gauge.

I have messed with my offset slightly and I'm always very close except late in the day with no wind.

Yes, a VP2 or VP2+ would be better (with a fan aspirated radiation shield) but you pay the price. I think for what he wants to spend, it's still the best option.

My next one will be a VP2+ with a wireless anemometer option. $800 plus $130 for the wireless anemometer option.

Mine is pretty much dead-on. I'm surprised?

Thanks! I'll look into that.

Sitting ocean front at Cherry Grove Beach, SC. MMMMMMMMM.

Here for a week. Chances look good to see some thunderstorms. It has been a while since I've been in a good storm at the beach.

View from the back door of the condo. First floor so a lot of dune in the view but no steps when unloading the car.

Just got back from Cobbly Nob (about 15 miles NE of Gatlinburg) and here's a few pictures. We had a ton of rain while we were there.

The blue sky image is looking east from our cabin toward Greenbrier Pinnacle in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park . The second image is looking east from the Clingman Dome parking lot.

Currently raining and looks like more showers and storms developing to my south. So far storm total is 4 inches of rain and counting. Current temp is 71 degrees. A little warmer than yesterday with a high of 69 degrees. Great weather for this time of the year. Nice pics Steve. The weather here at over 3000 feet has been great with the low clouds and rain.

Not sure if that was at Cherry Grove but the vid says Myrtle so it was close enough. A real attention getter.

I saw it on the news and they said Cherry Grove but it may have been Myrtle. Really grabbed my attention since I am heading down to Sunset Beach, NC (just north of there) today, Hopefully I will not see any sharks!

I've stayed in Cobbly Nob before. My rather large extended family (30-40 of us) have rented out the Castle on the Green several times in the past. I do remember several days where rain would just inundate the place and basically flood out the golf course that you have to drive through to get to the "castle." But, it's a nice area overall. Small world...

It could have been Cherry Grove since it is part of N Myrtle Beach. Lots of people just call everything fron the NC state line down to Murrells Inlet, Myrtle Beach.

This was our 3rd time there to the same place. The cabin is called Mountain Siesta http://www.cobbly.com/gatlinburg-cabin-rentals-with-internet.html

I love the mountains. I went to college at UT Knoxville and spent WAAAAAY too much time up there in the mountains!

It looks like a really cool place. Very modern and up-to-date.

When my grandmother passed away, she left a vacation account as an inheritance for the extended family intended to provide a week's vacation for all of us together each year. Sorta keep the family spirit kinda thing. We're always looking for a place with 10+ bedrooms as the family is quite large. And we like to alternate between the beach and the mountains each year. That's what led us to the Castle on the Green. It looks great in the pictures, but it's definitely seen its wear and tear over the past ten years or so:
