MN Transplant
Figured it would jump when the winds shifted. 99 @ 11AM has to be one of the most impressive ever and although 107 is a reach, it's definitely still possible... although ~105 seems more likely. DCA was 97 at 11am on the day in 2010 where it hit 100 at noon. Ian has a post about this somewhere.

Ian
That's actually what I saw in the metar before I even looked at temp/td...i love big jumps yeah.. those obs are always fun. next one might be critical for the all time record. if we can add another 2-3 it might still be in play.. im skeptical but we'll see. earthlight
Oppressive on the beach in Ocean City right now. Many people are here for about a half hour, but then are making their way to the pools instead. Sand is ridiculously hot and the ocean is (or feels) unusually warm as well. Ian
spc looks to put a watch up to the north. their circle and stuff makes it look like n md might get clipped tho radar suggests otherwise for now... watch the back end for more development south i suppose. not totally in agreement with their southern extent of the slight but worth eyeing. Bob Chill
Thermo in shade in the backyard is 97.4. It's pretty accurate. I set the high temp autosave. Don't think I can get 105 in my back yard but today will definitely be the highest temp I've officially recorded on my property.

CranberryWX
Charleston's record is 100 for today. My station is 94 at noon. It was 93 at noon last Friday when it hit 102 before the derecho. Time to head to the pool.

Even when DCA/BWI/IAD were hitting 104-106 the last two years, mine has barely touched 100. I figure 101 or 102 is the max my yard/elevation can get to. Only need a few more degrees. snowfan
Random question....what is the boards strategy with regards to house ac temps on days like today......high during the day and lower at night for better sleeping or lower during the day and give it a break at night. I've been keeping mine at 73-74 during the day and the house is comfortable.

I've been keeping mine at 73-74 during the day and the house is comfortable. I'd say high during the day (78) and lower at night (73), but my wife insists on 68 throughout... It's a friggin icebox in here...

I've been keeping mine at 73-74 during the day and the house is comfortable. Mine goes to 75 every day. It then is scheduled to step down to 70 between 4 and 10. Holds 70 until 6:00 am. Of course, on days like today it doesn't get to 70 until well after midnight and doesn't even cut off starting around noon-ish. It won't even hold 75 running full time when it's 103+. Can only hold 76-77 at that temp.

Lower than I would have liked, but my wife is less cautious.

In the winter, we keep it cold, so our bills are certainly lighter when it's cold outside.
