If those storms over Jersey and PA can hold together, we might get some decent thunderstorms later tonight. Also, it looks like Eastern suffolk was the bullseye on Long Island this time around. Much less here in Nassau.

there was no thunder here just heavy rain last 15 minutes but as the cell moved just east of the parkway it fizzled out completly

This morning, the convergent flow over Long Island was slighty weaker over western Nassau hence the cut-off in heavy rain.

While they wont be severe, the threat exists through the night for heavy rain. You can tell some new cells are still forming. There is a trough out there and we have a significant shortwave in the atmosphere. With a low as close to us as there is now, you cant write off anything making it here, but will be under severe limits.

don't expect those storms to hold together - seems as the storms moved closer they were encountering a less favorable environment and dissipating

some areas the storms hold together but check out the precip in northeast nj in this loop the intensity is decreasing as it moves east

Agreed. There are strong storms to the SE of NJ and S of LI right now, so it's not like the environment over NJ/NYC is unfavorable for convection. The primary threat with these cells has always been flooding rains due to their slow movement and very high moisture content in the atmosphere -- PW's 1.8-1.9. The low level convergence will be present overnight into tomorrow morning due to low pressure. Wouldn't be surprised to see some scattered hvy rains lingering into the first part of tomorrow.
