Chinook
I took these images from Penn State E-wall. The 100 degree readings built up for a few days in the Southwest and Plains and then pushed East in the last two days. This is quite remarkable that it didn't just stick to the southern Plains and AZ/NM.

Jmister
I made a movie of the heat over the last 15 days. These are not actually highs, but 5pm EDT temps. They are old school TWC colors so reds are 90s and tan colors are 100s. There are even some 110s. Sorry its such quick video, but it gets the point across. hot.mov

JBG
Our 100+ readings seem to come easiest on northwest downslope winds, sometimes in the immediate wake of a cold front. Happened in 1977, with a high of 104. I don't think the next day was over 90.
