Northeast Severe/Convective/Thunder thread IV

The cells were along the MA/CT border which was fine. Nobody said zero chance, but all along srn CT into RI and SE MA had the best shot of severe and you only need to look at radar to see that. If anything..I may have thought the tstms would be a bit more south.

Yeah he's being ridiculous right now.

With the exception of that monster supercell in S Litchfield County... Scooter and Ryan FTW. SE sections got hit hardest while N and W areas had trouble.

That was a good heads up you mentioned yesterday. I didn't even look because I figured MBY was out of the game, but not srn areas.

Nice to see areas getting hit. In the future, it would also be nice to stop having the "My forecast was better than yours" crap that goes back and forth. Overall, I enjoy the KFS mentality....at times, and all the other valuable input from others. It's fun being a weenie. :weenie:

It's one person that pretty much starts the whole crap show.

Thunder and a couple of flashes in south Braintree now

I grew-up in Braintree, right up the street from the "new" police station. Days like today I would go into the woods climb the nearest hill in the case Turtle Rock. It was a great look-out with great views to the North and West. Ah the memories

Nothing is going to happen this side of Boston, rarely does anyway.

Just got back from an impromptu “backyard” chase, short but sweet and very rewarding. It was completely spur of the moment, saw the radar and went out the door… Strictly visual, no computer, no camera. I was trying for an intercept with the big CT flying eagle supercell, targeting Meriden as my best chance to observe it crossing the I-91 corridor… Got as far as Wallingford, where I finally got a good clear view of the main updraft, and all I’ll say is wow! That cell had truly spectacular structure for the Northeast, some of the best I’ve seen in SNE, a true corkscrew updraft. In fact it was so good I got suckered off the highway, even though I know better… And of course I immediately lost sight of the base amidst the hills and trees - gotta love CT. I could see a small cell going up to the south, and I knew that would probably interfere with both the main storm and my plans… And sure enough, I dicked around the back roads for too long, and eventually got cored, just barely managing to make it back onto 91 as quarter size and possibly larger hail began to fall. Made it just in time under a bridge on the highway, where I waited out the hail core with several other cars. Luckily the cell was moving pretty fast, so the hail passed quickly, but the quick storm motion also meant my chase was essentially over. I did get some very nice views of the back side of the updraft… I could see a nice rain-free base for a while, complete with a small flanking line/inflow tail and a developing meso and wall cloud, but the textbook structure quickly fell apart as marine air began to take its toll. And that was it. Still, a very nice chase for CT, in fact I’d rate it as one of my best in this area despite its shortness. You just don’t get isolated supercells like that all that often around here. It will do, for sure. Very glad I decided to go for it.

Thanks man I appreciate it. What takes the life out of it is when the mets jump all over you and don't let you have any fun. Sucks the life right out of the threads.

I'm surprised we saw as much hail as we did... to be honest I expected more pulsers with gusty winds as the cores collapsed thanks to somewhat dry boundary layer right off the deck.

I think a finger of close to 7C/KM lapse rates nosed in. That may have helped.
