Eh, this is nothing...near misses on t-storms aren't nearly as painful as near misses on snowstorms...and you can likely count on at least three next winter (maybe more!)

Today's rain event and the slow cold front screwed the original outlook. If the cold front was faster as originally expected we would've easily had highs above 80 today and yesterday. Any time there's a set up like this in the summer highs will end up in the 60s (or low 70s), even though it's not a common event during the summer it still happens at least a few times each year. Even the hotter summers usually had at least 1-3 very cool days usually due to a cool rain event.

Amazing what a NE wind, some rain showers, and overcast conditions can do even during the peak heat of July in regards to climatology. I'm at a rather cool and rainy 65F. What will today's departures be like even though places were likely warmer much earlier today.

There's a reason I hate midnight highs. We can spend the vast majority of the day, say, in the low 40s but because a front didn't clear the area until let's say 1am, the record says we had a high in the low 60s.

That's true although I guess you can make the same argument the other way around.

The thing is its not often where we have a cold midnight low and then skyrocket and spend most of the day's hours much warmer. Cold fronts moving in overnight on the other hand are pretty common. I always wanted to use hourly data to determine a day's true average.

That makes more sense than high + low.

except your forecast was wrong and off the mark as well wasnt it

Yes, today is much cooler than I thought. But this weekend will feature temps 78-83 and slightly below normal. Just ribbing you since you were so gung ho on no below normal days.
