TradeWinds
out here we went from 76 to 88 from 7-8 am. I read LWX's new discussion and they did mention that western areas started out much warmer than eastern including 90 by 9 AM. So that MRB reading was correct. Interesting airmass. astarck
Any truth to this reading? http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Petersburg&state=VA&site=AKQ&textField1=37.2043&textField2=-77.3926
nflwxman
Any truth to this reading? http://forecast.weat...Field2=-77.3926 Petersburg always seems to be the highest of the Richmond area ASOS. A quick check of some PWS on weather underground shows a few in the area at 103, 104. So maybe it's in the realm of possible?

das
West wind + mixing happened. Speaking of urban mixing, specifically here in DC, here's the NCEP project web page for high-rez PBL analysis that encompases a couple of goals: 1) homeland security issues related to atmospheric mixing of toxic materials and 2) assist the NWS EMC mesoscale modeling branch with validation of sensor input into their models. Great inter-agency colloborative research work and a good peek into the great non-op met work going on in the region. Here's the page: http://www.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/mmb/aq/pbl/ ARL (+NCEP) urban mixing height study that fed into the above here in DC a couple of years ago: http://www.atdd.noaa.gov/?q=node/79 (high-level overview) http://www.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/mmb/aq/pbl/pbl-var.html (experiment specifics) http://alg.umbc.edu/usaq/archives/003496.html (cool UMBC lidar output) Good to see local universities like Howard and UMBC getting into the mix. Not specifically aimed at you, Mark. Moreso in case anyone here locally is interested.
