IWXwx
HUF got clocked with a drought busting 0.00 Must have missed the reporting station. Someone reported tree limbs down with 45 mph winds and rain to NWS at 4 PM. It did look like a nice, but small cell right over the city on radar. michsnowfreak
The Wyandotte wunderground station did hit 99.5, so 100F today, but that was 2 hours before DTW did (DTW was 97 at that time). By the time DTW briefly rose to 100F (97F the hour before and 93F the hour after) it was down to 90F here. Very odd to see a 10F difference between here and DTW, though I suspect NE wind off the water was culprit. So DTW did squeak out two 100F+ days in this spell, though just one record high (July 4th) and both 100F days came after the "official" heatwave had ended (thanks to those two convectively induced days that stayed in the 80s). All in all, nowhere near as impressive as the dustbowl-esque heat that hit JUST to our south/west, but clearly the most impressive heat Ive seen here since Ive been paying attention to the weather. Since June 27th, 9 of the 11 days hit 90F+ (5 of those 9 were 95+, and 2 of those 9 over 100+). Sweet relief is here!

michsnowfreak
Final recap on the heatwave of June 27-July 7th. Only one record temperature for Detroit (July 4th high of 102F), and the "official" heatwave was only 6 days (June 27-July 2) due to the two days stuck in the 80s. Detroit also recorded just its 35th (July 4th) and 36th (July 7th) day of 100F+ since records began in 1871. 6/27: 90/60 6/28: 99/67 6/29: 94/69 6/30: 95/68 7/01: 93/66 7/02: 94/67 7/03: 85/72* 7/04: 102/71 7/05: 86/69* 7/06: 98/74 7/07: 100/75 7/08: ITS OVER!!! So far on the year, we have had 16 days if 90F+ at DTW, 2 of which were 100F+. The first year to have 2 or more 100F+ days since 1988.

wxnut
Not a fair fight, for a couple/several of reasons, but a comparison of this past/current heat wave versus July 1936 (in all cases the max hottest 10 days for that month) for Bloomington, Evansville, Indianapolis, and Terre Haute. Interesting how the 1936 heat wave had warmer nights.. with lows a good 5-10F warmer than this year, many 80F or higher which would have been deadly with the limited AC people had back then. I've always wondered what the dewpoints were like in that 1936 stretch. I would have thought that drought conditions that year (and much of the early 1930s) would have resulted in fairly low dewpoints during the 1936 heat wave (perhaps 60F or less) to produce those high temperatures. But perhaps not given those warm lows. Anyways, this shows that the 1936 heat wave still maintains its "granddaddy" title. What an epic heat wave that was. Hard to know what dewpoints were like but I think part of the reason for the warmer overnight lows back then is simply due to site location. A lot of the official obs in 1936 were in/near the downtowns of cities. Nowadays a lot of the official obs come from the fringes of a city.
