At 95 here in Geneva right now, our 21st day at or above 90 degrees this year and the sixth day in a row. 97-98 should be attainable for a high today. Had 0.95" over the course of the weekend, nearly all of which should be a distant memory by Wednesday with evaporation the way it is at this time of year in hot, sunny conditions. Both the 0z and 12z 4-km NAM had 97-98 here for today. 12z has about the same for tomorrow and 103-105 for Wednesday.

Wednesday isn't far away my friend.

Eh, for fun, my prediction of your eventual prediction...adding a new twist to these kind of things. Wed 102, Thu 104.

Guess again.

Wed: 99

Thu: 100

Fri: 100

Sat could be close to this.

Had some cloudiness...back into the blazing sunshine.

Turtle should have spent summer in Ft Lauderdale...be cooler then this.

Nah, even 1 night below 70 makes this summer my coolest summer.

Today is turning out to be one of the hottest days, already 95 °F at MSN. 98 °F in Middleton where I'm about to go for an oil change :axe:

Dewpoint of 70 °F makes things much hotter...

Yeah...those cold fronts have a problem getting through Miami in July :)

I will say, last summer I had 3 days with 80F or higher dew points...Miami had none. Crazy considering how far we are from the ocean...must be all that stinky corn across Iowa.

Its just putrid out there today... Not a day to be going in and out of AC unless you want to pass out.

What I find unique about this heat wave is the fact that we have been reaching 90 here in Toronto with a staedy northerly and northwesterly breeze. Very unusual, although it's keeping the humidity and smog levels down and helping us to cool off at night. Best type of heat wave you can get in these parts!

Yes, the northerly wind has been ever present here as well. Fortunately, IMBY along the lake, has pretty much been low 80s through the entire event (except for a brief shoot up to 91 when the winds switched southerly for a few hours). Otherwise places a half mile inland are toasting.

That's probably due also to how the area immediately around City Airport has deurbanizd (note how the neighborhoods immediately SW of the airport which had population densities of 15,000-20,000 people per sq. mile in the 1950s-1960s have reverted back to farmland/urban prairies), which allows for more efficient cooling, while the area around Metro Airport wasn't developed at all and now has urbanized as the population shifted from the city to the suburbs. It probably also has to due with the fact that Metro Airport has expanded quite a bit since the 1950s-1960s as it gradually took over the all of the air traffic from Willow Run and City Airport.

BTW, if we can see 90*F+ through Thursday, we would tie the official all-time record number of consecutive 90*F+ days (9 days), though we'd need 90*F+ through Sunday to actually break it (11 days in 1953, 12 days in 2012).

That is an interesting theory on the "deurbanization" of DET and the urbanization of DTW, and it may actually have quite a bit of merit wrt UHI.

We will see 90F+ through Thurs but remember, the record for consecutive days of 90F+ is 11 days in Aug 25-Sept 4, 1953, not 9 days. That chart on the link just shows how many times they had 9 or more. Interesting as FNTs record is 13 days (1936), so they beat DTW. There were 5 additional heatwaves (1940, 1941, 1944, 1977, 1987) that had 8 consecutive days of 90F+ at Detroit, which ties for 2nd place. We should tie the 1953 record, though the 1953 heatwave for days will have been more severe. Actually many of our severest heatwaves (ie see 1936) didnt make the longevity list, but it looks like this one will. See the Detroit heatwave thread.

90*F currently.

6th consecutive 90*F+ day of the year.

13th 90*F+ day of the year.

9th warmest June on Record.

We're not even in the heart of Summer yet either.

Also, 13th month of consecutive positive monthly anomalies.

We actually hit 94F today which is good, because if we are going to tie the 1953 record for 11 consecutive 90F+ days, I dont want any cheap days where DTW gets an intra-hour 90F and most of the region stays 86-88F.

Actually June was the 14th consecutive month WITHOUT a negative temp departure, but dont forget September was a departure of exactly 0.0F, so June would be considered the 9th consecutive month with above normal temp depatures (and if not for the UHI tempering DTW during our April coldsnaps, that +0.2F Apr departure couldve also been 0ish).

3 more weeks til the official dog days of summer

Whoa, 101F in Middleton,Wi, I hope Turtle in an A/C area for his Oil Change...

That explains why it felt so fooking hot! It was better to be outside than in the little courtesy room they had, not much AC in there. Dewpoints in the 50s made it bearable.

Funny how dewpoints are near 70 on the east side of town and in the 50s out west towards Middleton.

Conservative. Looks like a good call though.

EVV continues the 100º streak, topping out at 103º...which breaks the daily record, 5th one in a row.

Honestly I think Friday probably ends up 1-2 degrees warmer than Thursday, but that is an extra day out so plenty of time to adjust.
