Only July 22nd, I had recorded 0.11" for the month. I'll finish the month of July with 4.01", aided by a 2.01" downpour today. Convection has a way of changing the narrative of a month on a dime.

Just in time for my vacation in 2 weeks, some rain now to green things up.

DTW will finish July with a mean temp of 79.0F, which will tie July 1955 and 1921 for 2nd hottest July (behind July 2011, 79.3F).

Top 5 Hottest Julys at Detroit below. For 2011 and 2012, I put DET's numbers in parenthesis, because though unofficial, its interesting to note the difference here in 2012. The AVERAGE high at DET was a startling 2.1F COOLER than at DTW (the average low was 0.3F warmer). Clearly all those days I either wondered how the heck DTW managed to get as high as it did, or joked about stat-padding degrees, showed up in the averages. This will officially tie with 1921/1955 for #2 hottest July, though DET (where 1921/1955 temps were taken) would have placed 4th hottest.

JULY 2011:

Avg High: 89.3 - (((DET - 88.6)))

Avg Low: 69.3 - (((DET - 68.8)))

Mean: 79.3 - (((DET - 79.2)))

JULY 2012:

Avg High: 89.6 - (((DET - 87.5)))

Avg Low: 68.4 - (((DET - 68.7)))

Mean: 79.0 - (((DET - 78.1)))

JULY 1955:

Avg High: 89.6

Avg Low: 68.5

Mean: 79.0

JULY 1921

Avg High: 87.6

Avg Low: 70.5

Mean: 79.0

JULY 1916

Avg High: 87.2

Avg Low: 68.6

Mean: 77.9

Interesting note...the official numbers for July 1955 and July 2012 were almost EXACT matches:

Cumulative High temp: 2779 (1955) - 2779 (2012)

Cumulative Low temp: 2122 (1955) - 2121 (2012)

Of course, 1955 was at DET, and as we see, 2012 numbers at unofficial DET are nearly a degree cooler. 2012 saw THREE days hit 100F+ to 1955s ONE, but on the flip side 1955 saw a record 17 days of 90F+, while 2012 saw "only" 13 such days at DTW and in fact only 10 days at DET.

DLL: Kudos to your daughter! haha

Yeah probably ran the AC 28 or 29 days this month.

Total rainfall: 3.96" - about normal.

Average High: 87.7°, low: 67.8°. 77.82° overall. +6.58°

High 81° today, with lower dewpoints and a nice breeze made it one of the more enjoyable days of the month.

47 minutes of daylight lost so far.
