strong storms are in the forecast tonight into tomorrow...things roll in off the alps, pretty cool stuff.

I'm wondering if the Alps function the same way as the Rockies here in North America by providing an elevated heat source, which, in turn, provides a catalyst for storm formation. (That there is the reason why the American Great Plains are what they are in terms of tornadoes and severe weather.) I doubt that an Alps analogue is as impressive as or exactly the same as the Rockies, but it might apparently be enough to spawn MCSs. I may need to look into this. Enjoy your trip -- I've always wanted to travel to Europe.

62º at LAF at 1:00am. Last time we had a min temp below 60º was about a month ago on June 27. Though LAF did get close with a low of 60º on July 21. Not that any of this is unusual (min temps below 60º in summer), but in this summer...

We should make it into the 50s tonight.

84, down from a peak of 85.

Actually, the average peaks at 81° between the 8th-16th.

Seems like the newer 1981-2010 peak averages are more in the middle of July instead of the 20th-31st period.

...

63° here tonight - actually feels chilly to what it's been.

Easily the most opulent European city I've ever seen, truly stunning architecture. I'll be in Vienna for 7 more days.

A "normal" morning here in the LAF with a min temp of 63º (normal for July 28 is 64º).

Also, I want to wish a happy birthday to our own KokomoWX. :)

Thanks.

Happy birthday Jim. Are you shooting pictures at the Brickyard this weekend?

Thanks. No Brickyard. I am not a fan so I declined the credential application. I also dislike the heat and no way would I take a chance on a 100+ degree race day.

MET has us getting down to 56 tonight. IND calling for 60.

And yes, happy birthday to Kokomo.

Thanks.

I did enjoy my day organizing the bike barn at home. The big bike clamp is necessary since I own two recumbent bikes.

A nice cool morning low of 61° today. Was great for sleeping last night. Up to 82° at 11:30 with some clouds streaming in from the west.

You can really see where the "Ring of Fire" pattern has been as is right now.
