What a nice soaker for N.Central Indiana. Farmers dancing right now.

A swath north of I-70 has done pretty well today. Farther north it's about a 40 mile swath of .3-.75 with locally higher amounts. Certainly will take it but gonna need more of these.

Only a trace of rain today - so far. Firework bans are widespread in Lake and Kenosha Counties now due to the drought. Probably only the communities that fire them off over the water will be allowed.

I posted this over in the general thread. FWA is in the middle of the drought area, they finally get some rain, then they lose it!

"The ASOS did not accurately measure the precipitation and the backup gauge blew over during the storm spilling the contents."

Well, that just about covers it.

I'm glad to see that many drought stricken areas received some healthy rains. I only caught 0.34" yesterday and last night. We were caught between heavier swaths to the north and south. Hopefully, the boundary will produce some more storms in the next 3 days and fill in areas that got shorted yesterday.

Things have really escalated around IND the past couple months. The next couple days are important as it appears the window will start to close at least for several days as the ridge reasserts itself.

Location, location, location. NE/N side of Indy has done better recently.

Totals of the past 5 days...

Indianapolis 6.8 NNE: 1.17"

Indianapolis 9.5 NE: 1.06"

Indianapolis 12.6 NE: 0.99"

IND: 0.04"

I figured that line that moved through Chicago yesterday would give Fort Wayne something measurable, but they got a big fat Trace. Now running about 57% normal precip there so far this year.

Areas south and west of the airport received a lot more. I caught 0.99" and just SW of here some spots got close to an inch and a half. At least the southern part of the extreme drought area got a little relief.

Looked at this weeks precip maps. An inch here, and an inch there, but no drough busters. Probably only going to prolong the worsening on the DM for a week.

Outside tropical remnants dousing the region, it's going to be hard to bust this drought "quickly". But at least some spots are picking up rainfall of late...better than nothing.

I'm not exactly sure what the entire process is to come up with the drought map but I think the cutoff day is tomorrow with the new weekly outlook to be released on Thursday. Overall I wouldn't expect much net improvement in the various categories...some areas may stay steady or even improve a little compared to last time but others probably got worse.

^ Yeah Tuesday is the cut off for gathering rainfall data for the drought maps.

I'm noticing with the lack of rain, areas that get mowed have been left to go and the weeds have grown tall. 3-4' weeds are growing in various places that are usually mowed - some spots it's so bad it looks like scrubland!
