blueheronNC
"The highest recorded discharge from any inland Florida spring is 1,910 ft3/s (1,234 Mgal/d), measured at Wakulla Springs." That was recorded in 1974. Average is 391 ft3/sec. http://fl.water.usgs.gov/PDF_files/fs15 ... echler.pdf We're currently approaching 1,700 ft3/s there: http://www.nwfwmd.state.fl.us/hydrology ... 652-1d.htm

thewxmann
Euro is much worse, 943mb well east of the Carolinas @192. It has become the new CMC with tropical cyclones.I suppose anythings possible 8 days out, though I'd take dissapated over Cat3. Obviously ridiculous, but I've always believed ECMWF was better at sniffing out TC size rather than strength. Generally, the lower the pressure depicted on the ECMWF, but larger the cyclone -- but not necessarily the stronger.

turtlehurricane
So... Debby has made me make an entirely new absurd color table for rainfall.... So here's my 40" color table.. 2.5 Days.. 31" of detected rain... Don't take the totals verbatim, radar estimation is very imprecise. That being said we are seeing crazy amounts, 18.5" since midnight in Sanborn which is the highest I can find, so probably 2 feet of rain storm total with Debby in the worst hit spots around that area (I recall ~6" in that part of the panhandle yesterday). Yeah sure, lemme add some tag lines and I'll PM you in a few minutes Don't take the totals verbatim, radar estimation is very imprecise. Understood,TLH isn't DP either which would probably help in this situation with ZDR.

stormspotterlive
Looks to me as if heavy rain fall in the Florida panhandle is spreading west some and the fetch from the gulf is starting to increase again. Really a unique rain fall producing storm some could end up with 30+ by the time this ends.

Really a unique rain fall producing storm some could end up with 30+ by the time this ends. Scary part is, there's already some areas close to, or over 30 inches, storm total. I don't even want to think what some of these totals could be. It could be as bad, or worse then Allison.

I don't even want to think what some of these totals could be. It could make Allison look like child's play. Yes this is a very VERY dangerous situation it is bad enough it is not moving much. Now we wait and see how far west theses heavy rain fall bands spread and then how long Debby stays in the gulf. If it decides to stay here a few more days it would get much worse before any better down there. As someone mentioned before Debby could be retired for rain fall frankly I agree however I do not think it will be completely due to what is going on on now. What she does down the road could help aid the chance of Debby being retired. For instance if it sits over the gulf another day or 2 then goes into the Atlantic and becomes a hurricane effecting the east coast or OBX the chance of the NHC retiring it would be much greater. I really think Debby has a good chance of becoming a hurricane once she gets into the Atlantic due to lower shear and warm water temps Question is does it go up the coast, effect only obx, go out to sea or get stuck and do car wheels which is less likely but still a possibility. Interesting week that is for sure.
blueheronNC
For those who don't think that Debby isn't still packing a wind punch, this personal weather station at Alligator Point, FL northeast of Apalachicola just reported winds of 53 mph, gusting to 69 mph in that heavy convection. http://classic.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KFLALLIG2
wxmeddler
Listening to Wakulla County Emergency services, the problem now isn't so much the rain as the swamps are doing their job of retaining and slowly releasing but trees are coming down everywhere because the ground is soup and any little wind gust is knocking them down on powerlines and threatening dwellings.
