THIS EVENING...

AT 745 PM...A LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING DAMAGING

WIND GUSTS WAS CROSSING SOUTHEAST PENNSYLVANIA AND CENTRAL WEST

VIRGINIA. THIS LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS IS EXPECTED TO HIT THE

POTOMAC HIGHLANDS BETWEEN 8 AND 8:30 PM...THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY

BETWEEN 8:30 AND 9 PM...THE INTERSTATE 95 CORRIDOR INCLUDING THE

GREATER WASHINGTON AND BALTIMORE METROPOLITAN AREAS BETWEEN 9:30

AND 10 PM...THEN REACHING THE CHESAPEAKE BAY BETWEEN 10:30 AND 11

PM.

THIS LINE OF STORMS HAS A HISTORY OF PRODUCING MAJOR WIND DAMAGE

ACROSS WEST VIRGINIA DUE TO WIND GUSTS OVER 75 MPH...ALONG WITH

PROLIFIC CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING.

RESIDENTS AND VISITORS TO THE REGION SHOULD MONITOR THEIR FAVORITE

MEDIA OUTLET AND NOAA WEATHER RADIO FOR WARNINGS...AND BE PREPARED

TO TAKE ACTION TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY SHOULD A WARNING BE

ISSUED FOR THEIR AREA LATER THIS EVENING.

How is DCA back up to 98 at 8PM?! With a dewpoint of 72 the storms certainly have ample juice ahead of them... the direction looks to be improving & they look to be making a bee-line for the metro area per LWX radar.

Welcome to 8pm July 14th 1995 in upstate NY. It was exatly like this. Not saying we'll get a super derecho, but this is a similar upstream environment that allowed a surface based MCS to plow over the mountains from 4am to 7am.

IAD and DCA are now in Ground Stop Status, all flight into these airport are being slowed down in route or held at their departing airports with the incoming storms

That's good for the passengers. I did the whole fly into Dulles in the middle of a thunderstorm thing. It ain't all its cracked up to be. Short story, we landed two hours later.
