Not that anyone really cares anymore, but it was another heatwave imby.

Thu - 93.1

Fri - 94.7

Sat - 89.9

Kathy Orr made a declarative statement on her usual Friday call into the WIP morning show that these past hot few summers are the result of global warming. I guess that settles that then...

Well 3 years in a row now has me interested. One hot summer says nothing, but this is our 3rd consecutive.

Not playing "denier" here but we had three similarly hot summers in 93-94-95. As of now, this summer probably doesn't come in as hot as 2011 did since June was pretty close to normal.

Agree, and 2009 was relatively tame compared to these last three...

I'm not categorically ruling out anything, but I think it's premature to state definitively. Now, it was a morning sports talk show, it's not like she published a paper or anything, but we know how the public latches on to certain terms and concepts around the weather, so I thought it was a bit irresponsible for her to say. Angelo asked something like, "Is this global warming Kath?", and she replied simply, "Yes."...

There was another derecho late yesterday from Iowa to western Ohio, according to Dr. Forbes.

He might be right for once -- there were 80 mph wind reports in Iowa, Illinois, 70+ in Indiana.

Will be curious to see what the reports were out of Indiana and Western Ohio last night...

He could be, although I looked through the obs across those areas and the real strong winds did not appear to be widespread.

It's probably "closer" to a derecho than any of the bogus calls he's had in July (7/7 was the lolz of those calls)...but I agree with you there's not a ton of 70 & 80 mph winds...they were the high end isolated variety.

Definitely a nice MCS though no matter how you slice it!

I don't have a clue yet on the blocking pattern this winter. But from everything I've seen from DonS and other energy met friends, this winter is either going to be feast or famine based on the preferred NAO pattern.

this is true, but what winter isnt good when we are dominated by a +nao...unless you hook up with a -epo and pos pna, the nao usually seals the deal ala winter of 10-11 with a bad pac but the nao was ridiculously negative.

12z euro went wetter and slower with the system for the end of the week. GFS is hinting at a good bit of moisture and high PW values. As the NWS mentioned in the AFD localized heavy rain fall is possible. So far here in Northeast Philly we are in a way heading down the path of august of last summer. May not end up as wet but it sure is going to give it a fighting chance. Got 1.10 total for the storm system yesterday which makes roughly 3.40 for the month which is rather impressive IMO for this earlier in the month let alone any month.

Quick post from northern NH (Bretton Woods) - 58 lovely degrees right now, low is supposed to be 48.

Summiting Mt. Wash tomorrow - mid 40's in the morning mid-50's afternoon, light winds, full sun - can't beat it. I'm sure the snow is long gone in Tuck Ravine when I head down.

Going over to Mt. Adams Thursday - supposed to be permanent ice in some of the caves in one of it's ravines - we'll see.

We were just there Thursday. It was 58, partly cloudy, and the wind was only ~20 mph. Of course we didn't hike, we just took one of their vans to the top, ha.

Enjoy, it really is a neat place!

The White Mountains area is absolutely beautiful. Visited the area at the end of June, but unfortunately the Mt. Washington summit was closed due to wind while I was there (damn stacked low refused to budge). Definitely share some pics... and try the Tuckerman's Pale Ale while you're in the area ;) brewed right there in Conway.
