ORH_wxman
ORH airport has been at least somewhat immune to urbanization being on the top of that hill there surrounded by grass fields and woods...I suspect that's why they put up that number in 2004. Ginx snewx
Clouds have cleared here in Albany and its become a warm summer night. Best sort of outdoor job for me was summer of 1969. I was driving a rack truck pIcking up pallets of aircraft parts and delivering. Loaded and unloaded myself. But riding around in traffic in the era of mini-skirts (micro mini) allowed frequent direct views of unfettered hoochie. Lots of folks sans undies then. All of us elders now. You ever post again about the degregation of this forum and I will bump troll this post, lmao , classic Jerry.
ORH_wxman
Looks like 12/30/1916-1/1/1917 ties that 3-day stretch for lowest 3-day mean. Both periods have a mean temp of -3.33. The highest/lowest temp in the 2004 stretch was 8/-12, and in 1917 was 9/-14. Yeah 1917 probably would have been a bit colder if the records were kept on the airport during that time...the old site could radiate better but their daytime highs were definitely higher. Ginx snewx
Tell ya Dec 89 was brutal, not for records but for the constant wind chill. Then their was the famous cold Christmas day in 80 I think, maxes were at midnight but the day was zero and below with winds to 50 and that was on the coast. The climate cycle will revert at some point and the oil industry will make us pay like never before.

Avg HFD temp was 18.1F which would have made it the 5th coldest January or 3rd coldest February on record. That's wild!!

That month is the 2nd coldest month on record for actual temp at ORH...not just departure...it was actually colder than January 2004 by 0.03F. Only January 1970 is colder than Dec '89 here. The departure for that month is something like -13 or -14.

I worked outside on the Thames at NLC that entire month, nothing kept me warm, will never forget that experience. Then to top it off the Dec 15 storm which blitzed everyone else was a total bust in SECT then it got cold again then of course the historic flip in Jan. Amazingly December 1989 only has 2 record low maxes and 1 record low here despite being the 2nd coldest month overall on record at the airport...and like a -13 or -14 departure....it was just consistently brutal cold the whole month. I remember the Dec 15th bust...we had like 5" or something here, but it was supposed to be more. There was a little jackpot in RI and interior SE MA IIRC. It was a compact little storm I think with convection in it. Christmas 1983 has the record low max for that day...high of 4F.

I think we had snow ocver almost the whole month, but it was never deep...like always 1-4" of cover, maybe even thinner in the first 2 weeks where it was like a half inch to an inch, then more like 3-5" after the Dec 15 storm. Kind of like January 2004 in that way.

Remember that Christmas night well, had a sitter for the 5 year old, went to the Knickerbocker in Westerly, saw Stevie Ray Vaugn and the thunderbirds and ended up nine months later with my second kid, daughter. I blame all my kids conception on extreme weather, what else can you do. Have a Blizz 78 baby, 83 cold baby, anyone remember what happened in Nov 84? ORH_wxman
Dec 1989 had 4 high temps 25F or higher the entire month. 2 above freezing. That's one way to drive trucks on the lakes by Christmas.

The climate cycle will revert at some point and the oil industry will make us pay like never before. Forgotten or before the time of many, was Dec. 31, 1962. An intense lps doing a loop over the Gulf of Maine, produced blizzard conditions over most of NNE, resulting in a total of 29.9" of snowfall at Bangor's airport with 20' drifts (over 40" fell at Ripogenus Dam in Me (wherever that is, lol)). The pressure gradient generated sustained winds of 50 mph (1 min. avg.) over large portions of New England, with peak gusts of up to 95 mph at Block Island, 80 mph at Westerly and 75 mph at Point Judith). Respective high and low temps: Bos 9F to -4F, ORH 1F to -12F and Hartford (it's main airport, not Bradley) 4F to -8F. Of course, KNYC had a high of 42F and low of 33F, with light snow (and perhaps a little sleet), that had quickly changed to prolonged moderate and heavy rain. j/k (it actually was dry with wind gusts over 50 mph with temps. holding in the low single digits during a good portion of the day).
