Looked like a Windex day too!
ski MRG
They will be popping five hour energy and Red Bull like nothing. Your mountain bike skills speak of age. Hardly, more like they speak to my lack of risk aversion.lol Oh, they can't hang with me on skis either. Old man, pffft.

snowman21
Supposedly hit -40 or colder here...I doubt it though. The lowest I could find in western Mass. that month was -23 at PSF and -22 at Amherst co-op on the 9th. Hartford was down to -15 that morning with a high of 5. That month also had 31.5 inches of snow and a -13F departure (based on today's normals).

Barre Falls Dam (where Tip plays frisbee golf) here in town, recorded -25 in 1985, -23 in 1994 and -22 in 1961 and 1971 They only have it to 1959 though That is a coop at an Army Corps site. CT Rain
1943 had the only true 0 day ever in Feb in Hartford though. Feb 5, 1918 had a high of 0 too downtown. No doubt that the 1943 stretch was the coldest. We don't get cold like that anymore.

CT Rain
1961 was just crazy cold too. Here are some of the records that stand today. No real record low maxes from 1961.... makes the 1943 punch more impressive IMO. CT Rain
We seem able to challenge the hottest day on record fairly often these days. Seems like the coldest of the cold days of the 20th century are just so far out of reach.

weathafella
Clouds have cleared here in Albany and its become a warm summer night. Best sort of outdoor job for me was summer of 1969. I was driving a rack truck pIcking up pallets of aircraft parts and delivering. Loaded and unloaded myself. But riding around in traffic in the era of mini-skirts (micro mini) allowed frequent direct views of unfettered hoochie. Lots of folks sans undies then. All of us elders now. ORH_wxman
I know the coldest 3 day average temp on record for ORH is January 14-16, 2004....but thats the airport which only goes back to 1947. I'm sure a stretch like 1917 could have beaten it.

It's amazing looking through the HFD records that temps now don't even come close to some of the cold snaps in the first half of the 20th century especially. Not even close. And those records were all kept downtown... not at Bradley!

snowman21
Dec 30, 1917 is in the running for a coldest day in HFD -18/-1 for the day lol That would have to be the coldest day with a mean of -10. I can't find a lower mean. #2 on the list is 2/15/1943 with a mean of -9 (-18/0), followed by 1/15/1957. Looking at the top 20 coldest days, only one of them has occurred in the last 30 years (tied for #19 is 1/16/1994 with a high of 6 and low of -8), and only a handful of them in the last 50 years. Sadly real cold is a thing of the past.

The highest/lowest temp in the 2004 stretch was 8/-12, and in 1917 was 9/-14.
