I guess I've totally lost my edge. Every time the SPC draws a green circle around here I get all consumed with fear and dread.

Hailpocalypse has left me a broken man.

SREF mean gets 1500J/kg MLCAPE up here with >30kt effshear so we should be able to get some action with that s/w diving through this afternoon.

What a day so far...

Gorgeous shot PF – after the couple days of warmth with some humidity this week, today felt like it was August or September, but with extra long light. We hit the trails at Catamount on the bikes for a couple of hours in the early afternoon, and there was a mix of clouds and sun that kept it nice and cool.

I just checked my CoCoRaHS data, and I haven’t recorded any measurable precipitation in nine days – that’s certainly one of the longer stretches that I can recall for this location, and certainly a treat for here in the upslope zone. Growth of the lawn has slowed enough that it doesn’t even need to be mowed, and that’s really a gift for this time of the year.

Man, we had storms/thunder all around yesterday but narry a direct hit. Managed only 0.05". Looks like more is in the offing. I'd be really bummed if we had a dry week in store but that doesn't look to be the case.

I hear ya. I've mentioned before that ever since the severe storm of July 2010 that leveled a good chunk of our woods, I get pretty jumpy when official wording reads in such a manner. No doubt severe storms are awesome to behold and certain weenies root for them but I would reckon they've never had actual personal property damage...scary stuff.

Agreed. On one hand I wish I could have seen the August 2007 hailstorm that wrecked a couple thousand acres of forest about 5 miles south of my place. On the other hand, I'm glad it wasn't my woodlot getting defoliated and partially debarked.

Got 0.35" from the extended-but-weak TS, then another 0.14" overnight. Not enough, but a good start with more on the way this week.

Can't remember the last time it rained...like J.Spin said, going 9-10+ days with nothing in this area seems to be quite rare. There's usually at least a pop up shower or storm the rolls off the summit but Mansfield is bone dry and its dusty around the ski area when the winds blow.

Thanks, J.Spin.

Looks like our dry period is over starting tonight. BTV is keying on some prolonged NW flow as the upper level trough sits overhead. I like the mention that precipitation amounts may start to add up over the Northern Greens by later Tuesday. 60%+ POPs until Wednesday morning.

BY TUESDAY...UPPER LEVEL LOW BEGINS TO SLIDE EASTWARD...WITH COASTAL CYCLOGENESIS OCCURRING OFF THE SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND COASTLINE. SIGNIFICANT MODEL DIFFERENCES EXIST ON THE HANDLING OF THIS COASTAL LOW...BUT WITH UPPER LOW OVERHEAD AND PRESENCE OF A COASTAL LOW...NORTHERLY FLOW AND SHOWERS ARE EXPECTED. GIVEN ABUNDANT MOISTURE AND NORTH TO NORTHWEST WINDS...SOME NORTHWEST FLOW UPSLOPE RAIN SHOWERS LIKELY AND PRECIP AMOUNTS COULD START TO ADD UP IN THE NORTHERN GREEN MOUNTAINS.

NAM's precipitation totals showing that tell-tale "notch" of QPF in northern VT from orographics.

10 minute downpour 1:20-1:30 here in AUG, prob dumped 0.20"+. 2nd lesser shower just ending, but this one had some thunder. Most colorful echoes still to our south. We may get some of the dense precip that led GYX to post the flood warning for points south, but not many areas around here got sluiced on Saturday the way N.York and SW Oxford Counties did. There's still loads of roads blocked by washouts in the Brownfield area.

Ahhh just another day in paradise, aka NNE.

Had all sorts of weather today at work but never saw the temp go above 52F at 3,625ft. Spent 10 hours up there today watching the clouds play with the mountain, and the ceiling going up and down, mixed with some sunshine from time to time. Some awesome undercast at times, too, whenever the rain showers would let up.

Its hard to get a case of the Monday's when these are the views I'm treated to at work. Photos are from 6:30am on my 4-wheeler "commute" to the summit on the summer work road.

Neat.

There were a lot of ominous ground scraping scud clouds with these storms, but if the NWS saw this video and confirms it, that'll make it the second close proximity waterspout I've managed to be completely oblivious too.

This is one of my favorite scud tornadoes from 2008... there were a ton of them around the lake that year:

here's an apparently crappy photo of it: http://www.atkinsonweather.com/2012/06/waterspout-on-lake-winnipesaukee.html
