NNE for the most part is, I could take you places up here where you would be living back in the 50's era with propane lights, stove, fridge and outhouses.............lol

Oh yeah I've seen it lol. VT is the only none state where I really haven't seen much of, but unknown it's just as beautiful.

Hooded mergansers - fisheaters, like the loons.

At 2 PM, AUG was 84/67 with near cloudless skies, while PWM was 78/55. Almost as if the BD didn't have that much TD effect here; yesterday this time AUG was 92/64, IIRC. LEW now 81/57 and BGR 78/58, so AUG must be on a small peninsula of higher dews.

Looks like the BDF washed out south of AUG

Squam has some of the most amazing views. Just a few miles from here.

If you haven't already, pick a day with no haze and a deep blue sky and go to castle in the clouds. it's probably 10 minutes from you. see the waterfall, tour the castle, have lunch at their little restaurant. bring a loaf of bread to feed the shark-sized trout in their pond. the views up there are positively stunning.

Yeah i went there years ago. Beautiful.

You wont believe this, but i got about 10' from a loon just now. I swam out to this rock about 100 yards out and it swam right by me. Really cool experience.

Oh I believe it. Up in Pittsburg, I'd go out on a jetty sticking into the lake with a chair and sit. The loons always patrol the shore looking for little fish hiding in the rocks, so they'll come close enough to let you see the deep ruby color of their eyes. Adult loons have no natural predators so they're not that timid.

92.7 :sizzle:

Yeah I've never seen it up that close. It was really cool. I hope they continue to make a comeback. There is already enough ducks.

oops missed the pics... very nice. interesting loon, kind of smallish and the ruffled tail feathers are unusual.

wait until you see one try to take flight. they are heavy birds and are kind of like 747's with underpowered engines. they'll skim across the water until they're almost out of sight before actually getting airborne, supposedly can take up to 1/4 mile.

if you're lucky enough to catch a territory dispute, maybe you'll get to see them

, which is how they say "come at me, bro"

Seems to be a degree or two "cooler" than yesterday so far around here. We had a lot of clouds for a while but they seem to have thinned out some, so we'll see what happens. Regardless, another lousy way-too-hot of a day. Hoping for some good showers with the front tomorrow.

Indeed. On Lake Morey in Fairlee, VT where my family lives, I've had loons dive and swim back and forth under the canoe, popping up on either side here & there--almost playing. Very cool critters.

Never seen it myself, but I've heard of instances where a loon lands on a small pond on a hot day, then cannot get enough lift in the short "runway" to fly out, but skitters back and forth across the surface trying.

He was pecking at his feathers a lot which is why they looked ruffled. He was pretty good size up close. He did do that dance showing off his white chest.

Yeah, It takes quit a bit for them to get airbourne, Most of the time their wing tips keep slapping the water, Never seen one get that high in the air, They usually dive under water and surface quite a few yards away from there original area

89.4 for a high yesterday--so, it actually got a hair warmer than the day before (89.1).

Back down to 63 this morning and it feels lovely.

Hoping for some showers later today but it's not a slamdunk by any means. Glad to see showers and rain in the offing for early next too.

Wow did it feel good sleeping last night... 7 hours in the mid/upper 50s with a low of 55F, really helped cool off the house. Dare I say I woke up and it felt a little chilly in here with all the windows wide open?

This next week is going to feel phenomenal with high temps in the 60s and 70s.
