famartin
I've lived in Nevada over 5 years now and had never encountered a rattlesnake... until today, that is. Found this one on the northern slopes of Elko Mountain, which is 7 or 8 miles east-northeast of Elko. Ran into it curled in a ball on the dirt road I was hiking up. Apparently it was just chillaxin' and sunning itself. It seemed disoriented at first (maybe it was asleep) but by the time I grabbed my camera it had come around, recognized me as a threat, and started to crawl away. At first it didn't do anything, it just crawled into the bushes. It rattled a little bit as it curled up into a ball under a nearby sagebrush. Looks like it was ready to strike if I got any closer. famartin
cool captures ray. where is the snow? Long gone at that elevation... though the recent cold (it was sunny but only in the low 60s yesterday) was probably why it was so easy to find the snake!
