mayjawintastawm
Ick. This is not fun. Even the dogs don't want to go outside. Now there is a new fire in Estes Park- only 20 acres so far, hopefully they can slam it before anything gets going.

Considering the amount of beetle kill trees up there, I imagine they are hitting it with everything they can spare. I went up to East Portal today and it was beautiful until about noon. At that point it started getting hot even at 11,000 feet.
Chinook
My car said it was 107 at I-25 and I-225 in Denver. That is a new record for my car thermometer.

Wind really kicked up, numerous small branches down and a couple close CG strikes.

mayjawintastawm
People pay good money to sit in a room with these kind of conditions in the winter. Now, where's my birch leaves and my snowbank???

boulderrr
After a week up in Telluride, returning back to my place (which has no AC) yesterday was brutal. The first thing I'm doing after work is going on a McGuckin's fan run!
CO SciFan
Just getting in from outside here in Fort Collins at CSU and with a temp of 95 (per CSU station) we have a very, very light rain happening.
Vandy
Well, now we've got a fire on the edge of the mountain parks about 2 miles from Boulder. Apparently it's slow moving so hopefully they can get it under control quickly. http://www.dailycame...mall-grassfires The NCAR Mesa Lab is being evacuated. Pretty drastic all things considered, but you can't blame them for being cautious with the land so dry.
boulderrr
Ugh... Glad it isn't moving N as it is only 3-4 miles from my place. Took this picture from work:
Vandy
Yeah, looks similar from the main campus. Mesa Lab is showing W-NW winds at the moment, so that's a good sign for your house (though bad for OSMP!) Unrelated question... do you work at Sybase? CO SciFan
And now scanners and twitter are reporting a new lightning-sparked fire near the High Park Fire off Buckhorn Road. We really don't need dry t-storms right now! It seems like we have new major fires breaking out just about every day lately.
Vandy
The fire has grown to ~300 acres and the plume is much much larger. Air quality is gonna be lousy in Boulder tonight.
mayjawintastawm
105 at KDEN again today. I think I'll find some cooler weather... in Florida! Over/under tomorrow? 100 again would be a new record for consecutive days, but NWS says 95 and more clouds. Better get some water with that lightning though. marsman
Change in wind direction and thunderstorms popping up north of the Waldo Canyon Fire causing smoke to drift further south. Wonder if those storms will provide relief or cause more pain with the added winds and increased chance of lighting. I-25 and Woodmen, change in about 10 minutes: KKTV has been running coverage since late Saturday night. Vandy
Wow! Those last two shots of the Springs are incredible! Here in Boulder, the back side (west side) of Bear Peak/South Boulder Peak is a goner. Hopefully Shadow Canyon and other areas on the front side can be spared.
marsman
Hey, why don't you guys at NWS-Boulder use yer fancy weather control satellites to put this fire out? Look at the briefer's faces.
Vandy
Well, that's what we pay for by not having Norad up here. Major props to the woman at the end. She handled that like a pro.

Msalgado
Hope you guys (and NCAR) stay safe tonight. I remember what it was like last year to be able to look over to nearby ridges and see flames and its not a fun feeling.
