Long Duration Noreaster - First week of June

I'm holding out hope that I might stay in the 40's. Not likely, but you never know.

Are you in the Bronx now? Are you in Riverdale?

I doubt it will be raining heavily enough for us to stay in the 40s given the advanced date on the calendar. We would probably need a Nor'easter forming further south at this point to have any opportunity for temperatures that cold.

I am still in Rindge this week...it's my last week working at Hampshire Country School. I start the teaching fellowship in NYC next week. I will be living at my family's house in Dobbs Ferry for the summer, and then looking for apartments once I receive a school placement.

Already 53F with a gusty breeze...well in line for a record low max here. It'd be nice to wet bulb down a bit before 1am (5z) to try to get a max in the 40s. It's already going to be a miserable day so we may as well make it a memorable one.

Yeah I think there is a good chance the high is at midnight for a lot of us. Euro had it in the 40s tomorrow afternoon for a good chink of the interior...esp with any elevation. We'll have to see if that happens or if it ends up like 52F instead...either way I think record low max is virtually a lock unless we somehow get some brightening because of a thinning cloud deck.

Wait, are you saying you work at the HAMPSHIRE COUNTRY SCHOOL ? Max in the 40's is possible across the high terrain.

I think AFN will have a chance to remain in the 40s most of the day. The big question will be if they can get below 50F before 5z...it may be tough.

Live in the greenhouse until Thursday. At least some brightening skies will warm it up a bit by Wednesday.

Oh it's been great in there. Even during the downpours, enough solar radiation works its way through the clouds to warm it up to 75-77.

I've been building an interior wooden frame to brace the west facing wall against any 50mph+ gusts which would otherwise almost certainly knock it over.

Teco Brackets. Why can't you just make the greenhouse's frame more stout?

Well the pattern after this week looks like it will build towards warmth...maybe even above-average and good pattern for severe wx so I'll tolerate this week.

Until then it's a raw mid-fall like pattern with temps falling and holding in the 50s. I for one won't complain if it doesn't hit 65 tomorrow.

The frame is made out of 2" tubes of that hard plastic resin stuff. It's really strong, but I don't trust how it's secured to the 16" knee wall it's sitting on. Wanted aluminum frame but it was more than twice my budget. I'm putting some 2x4's attached to the knee wall every 3 feet... this should transfer much of the horizontal stress to the knee wall rather than screws through plastic.

It's definitely possible though the 18z GFS pegged all of the heavier rains tomorrow for the Maine Coast and SE NH, which could allow some breaks in the clouds to warm the lower atmosphere. AFN is still at 55/47 so it may be difficult to get down below 50F at midnight with overcast skies. It still feels frigid here though, I just turned on the space heater in my apartment as the central heating is off this late in the year.

I'm almost positive nobody from Tolland on northeast sees a break of sun tomorrow. It's going to be nasty.

What's with the joy of cold and rainy in June? I don't get it? I miss the heat but it will return.

Perhaps you've never worked construction in 90+* heat. If I never saw a temp above 70 for the rest of my life that would be fine. Most people that say they love the heat scurry for the AC the minute the temp rises. I hate AC.

If I worked outdoors, I would hate what's coming this week. 90+ is a far cry from struggling to 50 with a raw wind.

I suspect it's because of Wonter 11'-12'.

Have to put it in the faces of the "warministas".

Just glad I didn't have to put up with the rainy, damp, cold crap. It was between 74-77 with a couple pop up showers, but was very enjoyable for out door activities.

Cloudy with a high of 59 tomorrow doesn't sound like fun though.

Who's a warmista in winter? Seriously do you follow this forum? I'm one of the biggest Winter weenies around.

i work outdoors in it all...and i haven't died yet...try working in the Mojave Desert in July-August...afternoon siestas are mandatory...we would sleep/go comatose under the trucks...the only shade around, while the temps averaged 117...
