June observations and discussions...

Which is crazy, considering they are flirting with a negative departure month. Just shows how cold and wet the month has been, despite the 5-6 days of extreme warmth.

Yeah, the only year that was closest to a normal in June was 1988. All the other years finished solidly

above normal with some in the top ten warmest Junes. The heat ridge is so strong over the US that

we mostly erased the negative departures over the last week or so.

a brief break to slightly above normal around the 4th then another big torch

Raw text has it above normal right through Monday. Then a 1-2 day period of normalness. But there is rain Wednesday night and most of Thursday. Thursday could be a little below normal.

But like you said, there is MEGA heat in the middle of the country with a Bermuda high off the Atlantic. And that heat should be unleashed into our area eventually. Like this heat was.

Lets hope thats wrong for wed night. The trend has been to break the heat mon with 7/2 - 7/4 falling back to normal before next surge of heat towards the end of next week.

Posted about the Bermuda High. It sure does grab it as our entire area is roasting days 7-10.

yes. we're less on the fringe. some of you are going to be crying uncle if this idea lasts through the hottest time of year (mid/late july)

The end of the run brings in the huge trough again with blocking and a closed ULL; But the period before that has very impressive heat.

it's been too aggressive with those trofs. the day 10 forecast from 10 days ago had below normal temps here, lol

What's the elevation like in western Kansas? I'm wondering if altitude is playing a role in those 850s because 30C is unbelievable! I'm thinking it's playing some role in the elevated 850s.

it plays a major role. most of the state is above 1000 feet
