Ian
5-10 tornadoes is basically a once a yr event or so. Solid but no apocalypse. Without being there I can't disagree heavily with Matt's rating tho I may lean 7/10 as I can think of a number of events in the past decade which were more damaging. I'm pretty embarrassed for the mets who don't know what a tornado looks like tho.
snowfan
About 6pm. Sounds right to me.....I'm over in piney orchard and it passed by to my west and looked nasty.

LMolineuxLM1
This was the Fallston, Pleasant Hills, Bel Air Tornado full video. SmokeEater (Ryan) Driving while I was working the radar and Filming while we chased together in my car. This was labeled as an EF1 90MPH tornado. Master of Disaster
I was gonna starngle the NWS if they didn't confirm a Tornado with the Damascus cell. It was warned for like 3 hrs. You will be happy then with the NWS report.
Master of Disaster
Some early thoughts on this one. I thought the SPC did an excellent job with the Mod risk. I do wish there was more of a standard to it though since Dallas had a "slight" risk the entire time with their outbreak this year and 17 tornadoes confirmed last I saw. From the EOC, we used traffic cameras to see if anything was confirmed on the ground and very clearly saw a lowering develop into a funnel and then a rope tornado briefly touchdown with the Damascus cell. Also saw what appeared to be two wall clouds at once with the Bethesda cell. Here is the pic from the camera on top of the EOB in Rockville. I know its grainy but you get the point. usedtobe
It's nice to see that there were tornadoes. in mby I only got .60 and didn't even have much wind. Shows how perceptions can be misleading.

TradeWinds
I'm reading and learning from the good discussions here. I see reference to the scud clouds and other false reports send in by the general public. For learning purposes, what is this? I call it a wall cloud and even maybe a funnel as it had a general slow circulation. This was the tornado warned cell in Frederick, MD around 5:30 PM that had multiple reports of being a funnel cloud. The building was in the way of seeing some of those lower clouds associated with this storm.

Derecho!
Those scud photos of tor's are awful. Should be examples at the next skywarn, low level clouds /= funnel/tornado On the bright side, to my knowldege, none of the news put up a pic of the "tornado and lightning bolt" or any other bogus pics they might have been sent. Ian
Clearly a wall cloud. For whatever reason people seem to be on the scud cloud hunt. Weird fascination with proving people wrong. Probably because a lot of scud and tail clouds abs updraft bases were posted as tornadoes. To start it's not a tornado if it's not touching. I certainly agree but I also found it to be a very impressive day for the area. I felt like at points we became distracted from that fact.
LMolineuxLM1
It took us Philly Regional sub-forum people to get good footage in the Mid-Atlantic Sub-forums section. We had fun and enjoyed it. Looking forward to another shot at something like this.

TradeWinds
Where was this taken? I am having a hard time figuring it out. I know there are two motorcycle shops over on 355 but not sure that it is there. You are correct...intersection of Grove Rd and 355. I actually wasn't chasing. I was taking a friend to pick up his truck. It was raining when I left my house and radar looked mostly benign. As soon as I hit Ballenger Creek Pike, I saw the tornado warning and realized Ballenger Creek was in the heart of it. I looked north and saw that wall cloud. I must have looked like an idiot trying to take a pic while driving. lol. Drawing a line of the storm track, probably came within a mile of my house. wxmeddler
Here are my two picture from the main catch from the chase. This was with the first cell that ran by BWI. A funnel cloud was reported by another spotter at the same time as the second image... I've altered the image to contrast the funnel. Just to be clear the WHOLE thing was visibily rotating real-time. Video camera battery died Rotating Base: A few minutes later (was still rotating!):

The Dude
Nice pics James! That is a funnel and it became even more pronounced and vertical than in the picture Thanks. That's the one I've seen before. It's tough to tell from a picture, but it looks very scud-like. When you saw it, was it rotating? Video of one of the three tornadoes that hit Montgomery County Friday. Nice vid.
