I see those same small patches of blue. At least the clouds are brighter that way. Glad to see you got the weather station up before the rains. Will your wind speeds be accurate?

I am hoping they will be. It is lower to the ground that I would have liked but we have a wind tunnel behind our house anyways. The clouds are getting bright now I would say in the next hour it will open up to sun.

Looks like instability will be our issue without more sunshine...story of our area. I guess Eskimo gets a break.

I like the depictions from HM and Baro about storms firing in VA...right along the WF. I don't like that batch of clouds moving up from VA during peak heating. However, enough heating will be around to force tstms, and it's possible a few discrete cells develop in the warm sector behind this batch of clouds and ahead of a linear line of storms that will be forming over the mtns. As always, nothing is ever clear cut with East Coast severe and it's going to depend on the amount of heating we get.

Here is my station. From the angle it looks to be directly under the deck, but it is in fact is not under it with the angle on the mast. I know that I can possible get higher rain amounts as the deck can cause that. I am going to leave it here and compare rain fall amounts to P.J.'s station a few miles up the road. I did not want to get any solar heating off of the deck, so chose to mount it lower. If need be I can get an extension mast that will put the station up above the deck surface.

Yup...somewhere along Potomac River is my guess.  My backyard and other nearby stations have dews around 61 but many NOVA stations are around 70.  Front is the breaks in the sky.

My dewpoint has risen by about 2 degrees in the last 5 minutes, so there seems to be some humid air entering our area (or the neighbors sprinklers turned on, which is also possible).

Great spot for accurate wind measurements, as well.

Horst's update:

"10:00am Friday, June 1:

A quick update on the severe weather threat for later today... As I explained yesterday, we indeed have a steady east-southeast wind blowing today with lots of clouds across the region. The warm front is well to our south and unlikely to make it through before early evening, if at all. These factors lower the risk of severe impacts here in Lancaster. Still, a triple-point feature will cross our area between 5pm and 9pm...and I do expect some gusty thunderstorms with heavy downpours to hit our area. Certainly I can't completely rule out a severe outcome in spots (large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornado), however these impacts are more likely south of the Mason-Dixon Line. "

That's an awful place for that.

How much room do you have in your back yard? I ask because you would be much better off installing a pole into the ground somewhere away from the house and mounting the wx station on it. You're likely to get a ton of inaccurate readings if you leave it where it is.
