For N Indiana folks, there is a chance the front re-fires over the far eastern LOT cwa...although a soaker doesn't appear to be in the cards

We're hoping so. May be enough to knock us back from a severe drought to a moderate drought in the short term. I'm not holding my breath. It will probably be hit-or-miss pulse type storms.

It looks you are going to be right about ill-timed frontal passage for ORD.

Feeling lucky today? I would say anyone in Indiana who gets rain, needs to go buy a lottery ticket to boot..

You can say that again.. I'm also getting little concerned with the 4th of July coming up, wouldn't take much to get a fire going..

I know a couple of fireworks retailers. As I said in an earlier post, they are not too happy right now, as most counties include fireworks in the ban.

Good that they include them in the bans, for obvious reasons. Though, the idiocy of the general public (using them) will shine though no doubt. Heard some fireworks popping here last night already. The combo of burnt to a crisp grass and fireworks around here...oy vey.

Just for kicks, I like to look at what the GFS has for total rainfall throughout its entire run for LAF. From the 6z run, a whopping 0.57" through 180 hours. Then it throws us a bone thereafter, 3.90" in fantasy land (192-384 hours). Complete silliness, but one can dream...

i rarely do that...especially in summer but it's been so boring that I've been doing the same. Unfortunately none of the fantasy MCS trains have panned out.

Not high confidence at this point but there may be a shot to put a dent in this by the end of the month. Pattern looks a little more favorable and some runs have even been indicating a tropical system in the Gulf.

I'd say so.... IIRC, the forecast for FNT as of last night was a high of 82-86. Both FNT and DTW was at 87 at the 1100 roundup.

Some updated maps on the drought - check out the 1 year drop in the PDSI index for our region. Perhaps the largest on record

http://weatherobservatory.blogspot.com/2012/06/june-22-25th-hot-some-storm-chances.html

Also note the new drought forecast - I am not sure I can remember such a large outlined area for intensification.

Actually, the more I look at the setup around the time of the tropical system, the more I don't like it. Seems like there are 2 likely possibilities: 1) it gets picked up by the east coast trough or 2) it misses that trough and moves westward in the Gulf under the ridge and just keeps barreling west. There would have to be some unlikely thread the needle scenario to affect the OV but it's hard to envision.

I know a couple of fireworks retailers. As I said in an earlier post, they are not too happy right now, as most counties include fireworks in the ban.

State law regulates fireworks use, Kokomo Fire Chief Pat O’Neill said, citing a directive sent to fire chiefs by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

“The use of fireworks is NOT covered under the ‘open burning’ provisions of [the Indiana Fire Code],” DHS officials said in the directive. “In other words, issuing a burn ban does NOT prohibit or restrict fireworks use in your jurisdiction.”

Kinda surprised that the drought area expanded that much in Michigan, thought the rain we got would have relieved any minor drought we had building up.

The rain you got Tuesday wouldn't have been included in this update. They compile data for 2 days and release the update on Thursday morning.

Only 12% of the normal June rainfall has fell here (KUGN).
