Chicago Storm

I saw Aurora Borealis for the first time in my life today! I did an analysis of all the solar data and everything matches up, this is the real deal folks. Kinda hard to make out in photos but the green tinge is definitely evident. With the naked eye it was fairly spectacularly, for a Floridian at least http://weather.schematical.com/

Very cool. Even living at this latitude all my life - I've only seen the aurora borealis a handful of times. Now I've seen it along Lake Superior a few times as well.

Right now it looks like it pulled back, but I will definitely be watching for it.

Would never know tomorrow is going to be a blow torch by being out tonight. Sitting at 70° right now with dry conditions.

Geomagnetic storm is dying down right now but it was going pretty good last night. Would've went out but with all the cloud cover and borderline Kp and Bz parameters for viewing in SE Michigan, decided the chance of seeing something was too low to justify spending gas money to drive north to get out of the light pollution. Congrats on seeing it for the first time, Turtle.

At least in the extended range Euro, the heat really stays south of me...which is fine in my book... We've still got July/Aug/early Sept to get through...

The warm season is just crazy long this year...with a blowtorch March, no winter ...its going to be nuts when we do get a cold winter and even a normal spring.

this was definitely not a drought breaker. ..25" is not a good soaking...however local places did get some good rainfall.

Between today and yesterday and the fact that most of semi wasn't technically classified as being in a drought in the first place (at least as of the map put put last Tuesday), I'd think most of MI is in ok shape.

Picked up a solid 0.85" this morning. As a result dewpoints spiked up into the lower 70s earlier this afternoon. Stepping out the door away from the AC felt like walking into a giant wet washcloth. Definitely not used to this kind of humidity. Not that I'd ever really get used to it with my northern European ancestry.

Was at work so totally missed the ominous sky everyone was talking about, not to mention the storm itself. Had 0.56" in my rain gauge. DTW had 0.68" of rain with a wind gust to 59 mph, not to mention the storm dropped temps into the 60s for most of the afternoon, just now rebounding into the upper 70s (and humid), but its crazy how a storm can just totally mess with temps!

I can't believe the swamp pu$$ies on this forum really in fact get out and enjoy this weather without chilling in a chemical bath pool or at the beach. Thankfully only 2 more days of this and a bonus the days start getting shorter, too when the heat leaves for a nice stretch.

I was outside doing yardwork in this weather all day. This weather is gorgeous! Temps in the mid 90s is perfect A+ weather.

12z EURO showing a wet and coolish weekend ahead. Sunday with NE winds down the full length of the lake. Quite a bit of rain north of Chicago.

Fail.

.SUNDAY AND MONDAY...FORECAST CONFIDENCE MEDIUM.

A RATHER STRONG MID/UPPER LEVEL RIDGE BUILDS NORTH INTO THE

NORTHERN PLAINS WITH A NORTHWEST MID/UPPER FLOW ACROSS THE

WESTERN GREAT LAKES.

BOTH THE 12Z GFS AND 00Z ECMWF BRINGS A SURFACE HIGH INTO THE

UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY SUNDAY AND ACROSS WISCONSIN MONDAY.

NW flow? I'll take it

And besides Geos and I were talking about today's 12Z run which wasn't taken into account when that Disc you posted came out..

Anyways its still 6-7 days out so I won't be too shocked if we are baking in the 90's next weekend either..
