Ever try I-685 to 87/Tappan Zee, to 287 thru NNJ, then either I-78 or I-76 out to 81? Looks shorter than driving all the way to Scranton and the tolls are the same, I think. (And the Saw Mill River Parkway is a beautiful change of pace from the south half of the 685 part, unless it's rush hour.)

Hope this isn't too late.

I didn't consider that route. I wanted to stay as far away from NYC and Philly as possible.

I went the way I posted and it wasn't bad. I did it 6 hours and 55 minutes, even with about 30 minutes worth of stops for food and gas. No traffic and some parts of the route were actually pretty scenic.

Glad to be here, I think it'll be a great conference.

Glad you made it safely/promptly; hope you enjoy and learn.

My suggestion includes about 10 miles of what I'd call NYC-type conditions, the Tappan Zee area and the southerly 5 or so miles of I-685. I'd probably take that in place of 50 extra miles, but YMMV. Using I-78 keeps one well away from PHL. Last time I drove it, though, was June 2006, coming back from GSP and the birth of grandchild #1, because we were picking up someone in Pleasantville, NY. We hit svr TS as we reached the east end of TZ bridge, visibility 100 yd and huge puddles/streams. As we looked through the wooded residental area for the pickup location, we needed a flashlight to check the map - at high noon. Some daaark clouds!

Family moved to Illinois, so now we follow your route until hooking a right on I-80 south of Scranton.

If the SNE group wants to take my # so I can possibly meet up for beers tonight reply here or inbox me.. Don't think I have any of your numbers (of people that are there)

Be careful, those MA people are pretty sketchy, I wouldn't want to hear that something bad happened to you.

I hope none of them tries to slip you a Ruffi. You wouldn't ant to wake up wondering why drinking beer makes your butt hurt so bad.

You should see the pics!

And the advice to Bob was great, because as we've seen here today and in the past with your incessant crying about OT access , you know all about butt hurt!
