Guess this means we'll be saying goodbye to generic state-sized blanket warnings. BILINGUAL MESSAGE - FRENCH TEXT FOLLOWS ENGLISH TEXT MESSAGE BILINGUE - LE TEXTE FRANCAIS SUIT LE TEXTE ANGLAIS EFFECTIVE 4 JULY 2012 AT 1500 UTC, ENVIRONMENT CANADA WILL MAKE THE FOLLOWING CHANGES TO THE PUBLIC ALERTING PROGRAM: 1. ENVIRONMENT CANADA WILL CONTINUE TO ISSUE THE FOLLOWING WARNINGS FOR ALL PUBLIC AREAS ACROSS CANADA: SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING (WUCN) TORNADO WARNING (WFCN) SEVERE WEATHER BULLETIN (WWCN) SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS AND TORNADO WARNINGS WILL CONTINUE TO BE TRANSMITTED USING THE WUCN AND WFCN HEADERS, RESPECTIVELY. THERE WILL BE NO CHANGE IN THE FORMAT OF THESE MESSAGES. THE SEVERE WEATHER BULLETIN WILL CONTINUE TO BE TRANSMITTED USING THE WWCN HEADER. THE WWCN BULLETIN WILL NO LONGER INCLUDE ANY INFORMATION REGARDING THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS AND TORNADO WARNINGS, BUT WILL CONTINUE TO INCLUDE A SUMMARY OF ALL REMAINING PUBLIC WARNINGS AND WATCHES IN EFFECT FOR EACH PUBLIC AREA. THE FOLLOWING BULLETINS ARE AFFECTED: .... 2. THE WARNING CONTENT WITHIN ALL SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS (WUCN) AND ALL TORNADO WARNINGS (WFCN) WILL CONTAIN THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL WARNING INFORMATION IMPROVEMENTS: A FORECAST VALID TIME FOR EACH ALERT BULLETIN, IMPACT STATEMENTS AND CALL TO ACTION STATEMENTS LINKED TO THE DEGREE OF SEVERITY AND DEGREE OF CERTAINTY OF THE SEVERE WEATHER HAZARDS PREDICTED WITHIN EACH ALERT. 3. A SUMMARY OF ALL ACTIVE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS AND ALL ACTIVE TORNADO WARNINGS WILL BECOME AVAILABLE IN JULY 2012, IN A SEPARATE MESSAGE CALLED THE ALERT MESSAGE SUMMARY. YHM Supercell Posted May 22, 2012 Share Posted May 22, 2012 Don't believe they will be storm based given that EC will still be using the pre-determined regions and sub regions to issue warnings, however the text will have more emphasis on impacts and what people should do to protect themselves. There will also be more locations specified by the forecaster in the text. Its about the closest EC can get to storm based without having actual polygon warnings. Great improvement for sure though.
