andyhb
Could be approaching double digits in tornadoes produced from this thing, I'm fairly sure it is more than 5 by now.

Ian
We saw at least 5 tornadoes of various shapes and sizes. And before that just stunning supercell at sunset. What a day.

andyhb
I'd say it puts the "super" in supercell quite proficiently...definitely one of the more impressive cyclic supercells in that area of KS since Greensburg, IMO.

So much for your tornado repellent On a serious note, congrats guys, nailed the forecast today...(and of course the cell going bonkers doesn't hurt matters). brettjrob
"That produced a weak tornado on the south side of Russell"...I'm not following... It was an extremely elongated/horizontal thin (VERY thin) rope from a deeply occluded, "old" meso. Looked relatively similar to the first elephant trunk that storm produced at sunset, from my vantage point near I-70. I can see why a layperson would assume it to be weak given the unimpressive structure and conditions around it, but I'm not that surprised to learn that wasn't the case given its tiny radius. Ian
This your first big catch? yep.. first tornado i've seen since i was 14 in texas and that was by accident. i was at the point where i was happy with the supercell shots near sunset. we watched the first large cone form from nothing then stopped to grab it again and i got some really crappy shots.. figured that might be it but then it kept going. will see how they came out with iso 3200 lol but epic day. Ian
So much for your tornado repellent On a serious note, congrats guys, nailed the forecast today...(and of course the cell going bonkers doesn't hurt matters). sort of a blunder on the first cell as we got on a road going sw before it got going big and there were no easy ways off. once the others formed it was a fairly easy call to run to the south even if it stayed high based through sunset. basically right after the sun dipped below the horizon it formed a huge wall cloud and then went nuts. was worried the front would be the only action but eh we lucked out i suppose.
