Different strokes for different folks. We are a melting pot of weenies. Some like it hot some like it cold some like it in a pot nine days old. I like it light when i get home from work, if we could turn the clocks back two hours in the summer that would be great. dark at 7 am light until 11 PM

Ireland was like that in the evening. Two years ago when I was there... I recall coming out of the pub at 11 PM with a fairly bright early dusk. Seemed kind of surreal. Well that is around 54 north latitude I think. Of course I was there once in December with sunset after 3:00 PM.

I didn't mind all the daylight on vacation ..different mindset.

BTW, yesterday was some of the worst pollen that I've ever seen. It created a haze at times where I could not see more than 2 miles ahead of me. Incredible. Pine pollen FTL.

yea I washed my truck and 2 hours later disaster. Could see it flying through the air.

Yeah exactly. I like the mornings...but that's just me.

I'm with you...I love the springtime before daylight savings when I can be at work in Mountain Operations at 5am looking over the morning models for a snowstorm approaching in a couple days AND see the first early light breaking over the Worcester Range. March is a great combo of longer days and winter weather.

I love winter but like sunlight equally as much. Up here in Norway where I am it's only dark for 3 hours a day right now from midnight to 3am. At 10pm the sun is still above the horizon. It messes with you a bit when it's light out for the 11pm news.

That's pretty cool that you are in Norway. I had one experience with daylight all night as a kid in Iceland....6/21/1977. We were all jet lagged and I recall all night long dozing on and off with that light streaming through the shades. The sun must have set for a short time, but it never got dark. Of course Iceland is almost always OVC so you didn't see much of any sun...

I'm a night person and I like to sleep till at least 7...even 8 if I am not working away from home that day..

Being awoken by strong sunlight earlier kinda sux.

Yeah, I never sleep as well in summer because of the early light streaming into the bedroom. I've been having problems lately here at Hampshire Country School. I don't have to get up till 8am for work, but the early sunrises have been awaking me at 5am some mornings, which is very unpleasant when you naturally need a lot of sleep and work long hours with special ed kids. I also echo weatherMA's sentiment that I prefer to sleep with AC in the summer when I'm at our house in Westchester. It's generally too hot there in Dobbs Ferry to sleep without A/C in July and most of August, but I also agree that the noise of the compresser and fan tends to mute the birds' early morning calls.

When I was in Montana, it didn't get completely dark in June until around 11pm. I thought that was pretty late...even going from NYC to Montana made a significant difference in daylight, and that wasn't that far. I would wake up at 3:30am, see the sun emerging in the eastern sky, and think it was almost time to get up to work at the restaurant. Only when I looked at the clock did I realize it was the middle of the night.

There are photon receptors in the skin that will trigger an endocrine system response and some folks are more sensitive than others. You would have to essentially be able to keep the room pitch black.

Ever hear of room darkening shades?

Better yet..wear a blindfold to sleep

Yeah exactly. I like the mornings...but that's just me.

I have shades in the bedroom... Not perfect though as the light still leaks in, but ok.

I was particularly annoyed today because I took refuge downstairs in the living room where there is central a/c these last two nights. No decent shades on these windows. Unfortunately the central a/c in this house doesn't do much upstairs. I make due with the fan and decent breezes most of the time, but this is tree pollen hell season and I can't open windows.

I guess all of the above partially explains my disdain for May into June. LOL

I also don't particularly enjoy cutting the lawn every 5 to 7 days.

I have a question about staying in the White Mountains and I know a lot of you guys go there regularly.

My hike club might do our Fall weekend in the Whites ...most likely the latter half of October.

Can anyone recommend a decent motel, inn, etc that could accomodate around 30 people? I am thinking the western side ...along I-93 such as Plymouth, Woodstock up to Franconia Notch because it is really a long drive to get to the more easterly areas such as North Conway from here in ALB.

I emailed the Woodstock Inn and Brewery in N. Woodstock and they wanted $130-$210 double for the weekend of Oct. 20. The members of this club are cheap and I could never sell them at that price probably, especially since this is post-foliage season.

I think the problem you will find with that timeframe is that it's peak leaf season up there so rooms will come at a premium.

WTF is going on with pine pollen this year? Seriously? I just steam mopped our floors and it's nasty as hell. Washed the car before I went to the gym and came out 45 min later to pollen covering it again. Holy crap.

Its horrible this year, same thing happened to me with my car. Washed Sunday, green again by Monday.

Bob, thx for that, will check them out.

Usually by going from 10/20 onwards we miss the foliage rates, but maybe some places try to stretch their season. My experience has been around Stowe mostly. I might consider as late as the 10/26-28 weekend...be cool to get some snow. :) But other members aren't snow fanatics like me. LOL

From my school district:

This is Principal _________________with some information about graduation. We have reviewed multiple weather resources and it is apparent that we will be unable to hold the Graduation Ceremony tomorrow due to predicted heavy rains. We spoke directly with the National Weather Service in Taunton concerning our rain date and they feel that we should be able to hold the ceremony outdoors on Sunday afternoon. However, following their suggestion, we will now begin the Ceremony at Noon.

lol ... they need to make a movie about Wiz's life. Arachnophobic Miley stalker pounding 40s, sitting at his HAM radio and reporting downed twigs and upturned lawn furniture, missing a tornado due to scoring for a t-ball game, getting lost in NYC during an attempted chase. They don't have screenplays this riveting.

Flushing cell phones down the toilet, screaming into the wind as he walks home from work...

We should all pitch in and adopt him
