Sweet! That is pretty cool Pete. Looked him up and we need a lot more people like this in the world. Seems like folks today just don't give a darn about the beauty of the land anymore. I don't no if you are into reading some survival books or not but i have read bear grylls book about survival techniques, and also Cody Lundin survival books. Pretty cool stuff.

Sadly, I think most people are completely detached from nature now. They see nature as something separate from themselves. Very few people ever spend a night out under the stars, hell, many people never even look up at the stars. Meeting a guy like Florian who is so dedicated to the environment is inspiring. He literally puts his life on the line to get those shots. It's great to spend time with highly motivated individuals and Florian is certainly that. I know something of what his next project is all about and I really look forward to seeing the final product. As for the survival stuff, I'm mostly into Winter survival techniques. I lost respect for Grylls when I heard that many of the scenes in his Man vs. Wild show were faked. Still a cool guy but I like Les Stroud's show Survivorman much more. It seems much more authentic. I haven't checked out any of Lundin's stuff but I will now. Bears are thick here. See more of them than even deer.

Cool picks Pete. We have several Black bears around here. When going hiking you always have to aware of were they are because as big as they are you can run up on one in no time.

You'll like this one as well. Gavin and Jody are awesome, intrepid souls. (Jody is the sister of a close friend). They have turned their passion for adventure into a way to make a living. They're currently designing a new catamaran with Richard Branson of "Virgin" fame. Follow your passion and the rest will fall into place.

Ya i agree a lot of people do not look up at the stars anymore. Went camping last weekend and it is amazing just how much fun you can have with out the phone, internet, ect. Ya Grylls book it a lot better than his show. Winter survival would be very cool. If you can give me any ideas that would be great on what book to ger tand read. I am planning this next winter to go hiking and set up camp in the snow if we have a decent winter down here. Would be real cool to be in the forest camping when it is snowing.

The weather is holding for the Talkeetna Gang. At least for the next couple days. All equipment and supplies should be up to 14k by Tuesday. After a day or two rest they should take the first weather window to make the push for the summit. Haven't heard anything in 48hrs. Most likely very busy surviving.

No need to go to Alaska for wintry conditions when we have it right here in the lower 48 as there is an ongoing winter storm in the ID/WY/MT area. Winter storm warnings are up and at relatively low elevations for this time of year (4000 ft). Not a ton of accumulation but half of a foot just days from June is still impressive.
